73 Street Surveys complete during Qtr 1 84% achieved grade A or B for litter (61 streets) 60% achieved grade A or B for Detritus (44 streets)
32 Streets were surveyed during Qtr 2. 91% of streets achieved grade A or B for litter. (29 streets) 66% of streets achieved grade A or B for detritus (21 streets).
Gradual improvements are evident during Qtr 2.
Overall decline is due to: backlog of work due to the impact of pandemic – reduced service provision for 18 months redeployment of staff to help deliver critical Waste & Recycling services unable to appoint new staff to all vacancies within the team including sweeper driver issues with performance of weed-spraying contractor increase in the amount of fly-tipping throughout the district increase in the amount of household waste deposited in litter bins |

Interventions in the last 3 months and evaluation of impact

Prioritising of litter bin routes to ensure bins in areas with high footfall are emptied at least twice a week Targeted clean-up project on the Oak Tree estate following on from the Tidy Together campaign has paved the way for similar action weeks in hot-spot areas Monitoring of effectiveness and application of herbicide by the contractor followed up with remedial visit and spot spraying, however the results have been extremely patchy Advice sort from Legal and processed commenced to terminate existing weed-spraying contract Parks staff have supported Street Cleansing teams by spraying and manually grubbing out weeds in targeted and hot-spot areas Support to community litter-picks Installation of new/bigger litter bins in some areas 2 new starters appointed from previous recruitment round are now up to speed Further recruitment round is underway to appoint 5 cleansing operatives including 2 sweeper drivers. CVs will now be accepted and job adverts have been placed with the wider jobs e.g. indeed, monster and other social media and online platforms |
