Course Description:

This course covers two semesters of college credit in the Calculus of single Variable Calculus. In this course students will develop the preliminary concepts and skills associated with limits; techniques and applications of differentiation and integration; parametric, polar, and vector functions; differential equations; and polynomial approximations and series including the Taylor and Maclaurin series. Multiple representations of each concept will be investigated – graphical, analytical, numerical, and verbal. Technology will be integrated throughout to develop and enhance the curriculum. Students are expected to perform college level work and are expected to take the Advanced Placement Exam.

Expectations:

Materials Needed in class each day:

Course Syllabus:

Semester One

Over the course of the first semester students should be able to work with:

Semester Two

Over the course of the second semester students should be able to work with:

Practice sets Procedure:

Grading:

Grades will be based on accumulated points. Performance is graded on tests and quizzes (70%), class activities and practice sets (10%), and the final exam (20%). Students should keep track of their grades online. Credit will NOT be given for late work or answers without supporting work. Work is considered “late” if it is not turned in prior to the assessment covering the material.

Extra Help:

Make ups:

Time missed from school can never truly be made up; the interaction in the classroom cannot be replicated by doing make-up work. For an excused illness absence, the student is entirely responsible for requesting the make-up work from the teacher(s). Tests/quizzes will be scheduled appropriately by the teacher. Students will be given one school day for each day of excused absence to make up assignments and tests. All missing grades will be assigned a zero until make up work has been graded. Additional considerations will be given for students with extended illnesses. In a matter of disciplinary absence it is the suspended student’s responsibility to make up missed work or tests. Work is due on the date of return to school.

Absent for a non test or quiz day: Check the calendar for the assignment; Get the class notes from a classmate; If needed ask for help. Seek assistance from your teacher only after you can demonstrate a valid effort to learn the material.

Absent the day of a test or quiz: If you choose to miss the day of a quiz or test you will be required to make up that grade at the convenience of the teacher. The grade make up may be in a different format from the original test. Expect the make up version to be more challenging. If you know that you will be absent the day of a test, arrange to take it before you leave. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON TO MISS TEST DAYS. The teacher reserves the right to change this due to extenuating circumstances. All quiz or test grades need to be made up within one week. A zero will be recorded until make up has been graded. Do not count on a reminder from the teacher, be RESPONSILBLE.

First Assignment:

Review your precalculus notes from last year. Journal what you believed your biggest challenge was. How did you (or how will you) overcome that challenge? What do you believe you will learn in BC calculus this year.
