Ray was born in Lebanon, Oregon on July 10, 1910. He attended school there and graduated from high school in 1928. Ray then went to business college at Northwest School of Commerce in Portland for thirteen months. After he graduated, he accepted a job from Archie McGowan in the Burns Garage as bookkeeper, and soon he became active in management in 1936, and then became owner in 1958. He ran the business for 49 years before selling it in 1978. He also owned Raymond Weeks Oil Co. for over 50 years of service.

Mr. Weeks was a very active member of the community, and received many awards through his organization affiliations and service. He was Master of the Masonic Lodge in 1942 at the age of 32, and helped over 50 children through the Shriners Hospital. He was a Shriner, Jester, and an honored Hal of Famer in 1986. He was also a charter member of the Burns Lions Club, and a member of the Burns Elks Lodge.

Ray set up a scholarship through the Chamber Music Society in memory of wives Mildred and Mable, and son Jerry. A scholarship at Eastern Oregon State College in the memory of Mildred was also set up. Football scoreboards at Crane and at Burns High Schools were also purchased in the memory of Jerry Weeks.

Ray Weeks was a very generous man when it came to the youth of our community. He was very supportive in all the youth endeavors, trips, sports, organizations, and more. He sponsored 4H Dog Show awards, and sponsored savings bonds for the top ticket sellers of Shrine Tickets. He attended and purchased 4H animals at the Livestock Auction.

Ray was also the Chairman of the Board for the 4C Program and financially supported them, be it a new roof or an oil stove.

Congratulations Ray!! You are very deserving of the title of “1995 GRAND MARSHALL” of the HARNEY COUNTY FAIR, RODEO, & RACEMEET.

** Ray passed away on May 10, 1995, just three days before the annual Fair Banquet for 1995, when the Grand Marshall would have been announced to the public.
