Dear
Parents and Carers,
Thank you for continued vigilance around Covid-19 symptoms and support of the approaches we have needed to take. Please read the guidance below that explains what to do if your child is ill. I’d like to reassure you that we are not aware of any positive Covid-19 cases in any staff or children.
What to do if your child is ill
If your child is displaying any of the Covid-19 symptoms please follow the guidance below:
a high temperature (37.8 Celsius or above)
a new, continuous cough (this means coughing a lot, for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours)
a loss or change to sense of smell or taste (this means they cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal)
What to do if …
|
Action needed |
Return to school when … |
My child has coronavirus symptoms (as defined above)
|
Do not come into school Whole household self-isolate Get a test: You can do this online https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/antigen/name or by calling 119. Inform school immediately about test result |
If the test results are negative, your child can return to school immediately, provided they feel well enough to do so and no longer have a fever. (Absences due to Covid-19 symptoms are recorded as such and will be authorised.) If the results are positive, school will follow guidance from the Health Protection Team, which may involve closing a class. |
My child has symptoms not linked to Covid-19 (symptoms different from the definition above) |
As per the usual procedure please inform the school office of absence and give full details of the illness and symptoms If your child has a mild cold, runny nose, a few sneezes or a cough which is not continuous (e.g. not coughing a lot, for more than an hour/ 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours) then as long as they are well enough, they can come to school. |
When your child is feeling better OR 48 hours after the last bout of sickness or diarrhoea
|
Somebody in my household has coronavirus symptoms. |
No one in the household should come into school Whole household to self-isolate Household member to get a test Inform school immediately of test result |
The household member’s test is negative. |
Somebody in my household has tested positive for coronavirus
|
Do not come into school Self-isolate for 14 days |
Child has completed 14 days of self-isolation without any symptoms. The child must complete 14 days isolation regardless of if they have a negative test or are not displaying symptoms
|
NHS test and trace have identified my child as a close contact of somebody with symptoms or confirmed coronavirus |
Do not come into school Self-isolate for 14 days |
Child has completed 14 days of self-isolation without any symptoms. The child must complete 14 days isolation regardless of if they have a negative test or are not displaying symptoms
|
Over the last two weeks a small number of children have had tests and all have had a negative result. We are aware there is real inconsistency in the experience of people booking tests. We are all hopeful that over the next few weeks this will improve but in the meantime thank you for your continued support and perseverance.
