“Don’t worry ‘bout me mama”
(copyright 2010 Julie Kaylin)
Verse 1
A young man eighteen years old
Barely old enough to understand
He’s leaving home for a rough road
Has to fight a war in a foreign land
His mama cries
So afraid that he’ll get hurt or worse
Her son looked her in the eyes
He hugged her tight and said these words
Chorus
Don’t worry ‘bout me mama
I’ll be okay
I’ll be home soon mama
No matter what I face
If I fall and lose my path
Your prayers will lead me back
I promise you mama
I’ll do whatever and all it takes
To see you again
Verse 2
Two lonely years passed
His words gave mama strength to survive
‘Till on the newscast she heard
Some soldiers lost their lives
They wouldn’t say their names
‘Till all the family’d been notified
Tears burned her eyes like flames
As his voice echoed deep inside
Repeat Chorus
Bridge
Still stunned by the news
She didn’t hear the car pull in the driveway
But there was no mistaking
His face at her door
And his voice for sure saying
Last Chorus
Don’t worry ‘bout me mama
I’m here okay
I came home soon mama
No matter what I’d face
When I’d fall and lose my path
Your prayers would lead me back
I promised you mama
I’d do whatever and all it’d take
To see you again
