Important Things to Know |
The below tips are designed to assist the user in obtaining maximum efficiency from the Address Validation Tool. |
Address Not Unique |
If the address entered is not unique, the system will return all possible valid addresses. If the user is uncertain of the address, it may be best to only input the required fields so that a list is produced. |
Abbreviations |
The Sprint Address Validation uses 911 addressing. Therefore, addresses in the database are reflective of the manner in which each individual city, state or community entered them. This will result in variances in abbreviations. For example: Avenue may be found as AVE or AV. |
Highways |
When validating addresses which are highways, you may want to try the following variations: US XX (where XX = the highway number) US Hwy XX HWY XX |
Numbered Streets |
Numbered streets are normally in the database using the numeral but they may also be spelled out. For example Second Street may be 2, 2nd or Second. It is recommended that you first try your validation using just the number (i.e. 2) |
Fractional House Numbers |
When validating a number with a fractional address the FRAC field must be completed to insure accuracy. For example: If the address is 409A and you only put in 409 you may receive a valid address but it is not accurate for your request. You should put the 409 in the House No. and the A in the FRAC field when doing your validation.
Note: Some communities may consider an ALPHA address extension as a unit number rather than a Fractional.
When inputting fractions such as 1\2 be sure to include the \. |
Punctuation |
Do not use punctuation. When abbreviating a name such as Saint James you would type St James with no period after the t in Saint. |
Case Sensitivity |
This site is not case sensitive. All information may be entered in all lower or upper case or a combination. |
Identifying the City |
When multiple address combinations are found the website will provide a list showing the COMM and EXCH. These fields are often abbreviations for the actual City. When you make a selection for the list the city for that address will be displayed in the City field. |
System Responses |
The site will return one of five possible response messages to indicate the status of the validation. Address Valid Address valid no previous service recognized Address not unique (multiple address will display) Address not found Error-Server not available, Zipcode or request name was not recognized. (This error may indicate that the state and zip are not compatible or the address is outside of Sprint territory) |

Spelling Errors |
The system will return an “Address Invalid” for misspelled street names. However, a validation can be performed by using as few as one letter in the street name. Remember the more letters you provide the shorter the list of choices. |
