Relation to Working Groups
The DICOM Standards Committee (DSC) is an independent, international standards-developing organization (SDO). Accordingly, it elects its own members and officers and develops its own operating procedures. It establishes relationships with other SDOs, professional societies, government agencies, associations, etc.
The DICOM Standards Committee:
Establishes or disbands working groups as needs arise or fade away;
Approves the scope and function of each working group;
Appoints members to serve on its working groups;
Evaluates work item proposals submitted by its working groups and
Monitors progress made by those groups.
Individual Working Groups:
Are established by the DICOM Standards Committee and report regularly to it;
Nominate organizations or individuals to be appointed as members by the DSC;
Elect their own officers and determine their own meeting schedules and venues;
Develop and submit to the DSC work item proposals within their approved scope and
Carry out the detailed tasks of developing and maintaining the Standard including:
The preparation of new supplements or correction proposals;
Coordinating specific aspects of the standards-development process between various DICOM working groups or with other organizations;
Advise the DSC regarding new opportunities or needs.
