For 160 years and during about 60.000 concerts many generations have admired the sounds of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra. Throughout this period, the most famous artists have collaborated with the orchestra, directly influencing it’s artistic performance. Notable conductors in the orchestra’s history have included Johann Strauß, who’s enthusiastic admiration of its artistic qualities can be read in the historical archive of the orchestra, and Hector Berlioz (he was the director of Baden-Badens first summer festivals), The list of soloists reads like a “Who’s Who” of musical history. You can find names like: Placido Domingo (8 times), Anna Netrebko (4 times), Diana Damrau (5 times), Anne-Sophie Mutter, Krassimira Stoyanova, Juan Diego Flores, Vesselina Kasarova, Thomas Hampson, Piotr Beczala (4 times), Daniel Hope – but also famous artists like Hector Berlioz, Franz Liszt, Camille Saint Saens, Johannes Brahms, Clara Schumann, Jacques Offenbach, Pablo Casals, Igor Strawinsky, Belá Bartók, Paul Hindemith, Enrico Caruso. Among the famous conductors were Bruno Walter, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Richard Strauss and Arthur Nikisch etc.



With such historical foundations today’s generation of musicians in the Baden-Baden orchestra has no difficulty in enriching the scale of performances with interesting and successful ideas. Here you will find numerous traditional symphonic concerts, performances of modern Music, original Event- and Gala concerts and popular activities for young musicians. For many years the Carl-Flesch-Masterclass with professors from the “Berliner Philharmoniker” has attracted young soloists from all over the world. Spectacular open air concerts like the open air festival “Melodic Gardens” and numerous crossover activities of Baden-Baden Philharmonic are the highlights in the cultural life in this region of Germany. 36 successful CD recordings and television and radio productions are testimony to the artistic abilities of the ensemble.


Concert tours take the orchestra all over the world, with enthusiastic audiences applauding in the Arabian Emirates Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar, China (Beijing, Shanghai etc), Ucraine, Spain, Belgium, Suisse, France and Italy.
