Use this link to log in to edit your group’s page on the Bristol U3A website: https://www.u3asites.org.uk/code/login.php

You can either copy and paste this address into your browser or use the Website login link on the Group Convenors page which you will find on the Members Info tab of the Bristol U3A website.

Enter your log-in name and password then click Edit my U3A Site.

The first thing you will see is a page called Page Editor Help which hopefully you will find useful to get you started. There is a menu down the left hand side of the page. You can start creating your page just by clicking on Edit text.

We would like all the groups’ pages to follow the same format:

#What it is:#

#When it is:#

#Where it is:#

(NB putting # immediately before and after words makes them appear in bold)

Add any other information about the group. If in doubt have a look at a few of the other groups’ pages.

Add the following (or something similar) “To contact the Group Convenor click on the pigeon symbol on this page”

Add the following, giving details applicable to your group/venue:

_Contact before coming or Just turn up (as applicable). Disabled/easy access (as applicable). Some steps (if there are any). Nearby parking or No parking. (?) mins to bus stop_

(NB putting _ immediately before and after the information as shown puts the text in italics.)

Then it is useful if you put your initials and the date when you updated the page.

Don’t forget to click on “save this page”.

Next, add your contact details to your page:

People like to be able to contact the Group Convenor directly. They can do that without your email address being visible.

Click on “add email” and fill in the form provided. Enter your email address. In the box marked Label enter the name of your page. Leave the Inline only? box as “no” and the Inline link destination as “Online form”.

Doing this will create the pigeon symbol on the right hand side of your page which people can click on to contact you.

When you receive an email this way, the message will appear to be from [email protected] Ignore this - just click Reply, same as usual, and your email will automatically be addressed to the person who sent it.

If you want to make your page more interesting and useful to your group’s members or potential members you can add photos, sub-pages, links and upcoming events.

There is lots of guidance available for this online. All the current Help Guides can be found on: https://u3asites.org.uk/code/helpind.html. The Tutorial Guide for Page Editors (in the Additional Resources section) is very comprehensive with pictures to help you.

If you are having a problem you can also contact the Bristol U3A website editor via the Contact Us page and she will be happy to help.

The following gives some brief guidance to help a beginner get started:

Creating a “Dates for your Diary” section at the bottom of your page.

Please use the Events feature if you want to put dates on your page. It automatically deletes dates that have passed which leaves your page looking up-to-date.

Click on Add Event.

Click in date box and this will bring up a calendar so that you can select the correct date of your event

Enter details of event in box. You will need to put something or it won’t register – it could just be “Meeting”.

Click on ‘Save this data and add another event’ or ‘Save this data and check event details’.

If you click on View my page you will see that a Dates for Your Diary section has been created. This appears right at the bottom of your page, so members might miss it if you have a lot of other information on your page. So we suggest you add to your When it is details the following: “Please scroll down to the bottom of this page for the Dates for your Diary section”.

Adding Photos to your page

These will make your page more attractive. You can add up to 25 photos – the first few will appear on the side bar and the rest will appear at the bottom of the page. Check that anyone appearing in a photo is happy for it to appear on the website.

Reduce the size of the photo you wish to upload to less than 1.5MB.

Once you have uploaded it a form will appear. You only need to enter a title for the photo but you can add a description as well if you like. Leave everything else on the form as it is – just click save data.

FINALLY: don’t forget to log out.
