1SCOPE OF WORK

This document reports the procedure to be followed to remove the M2 unit hub from the telescope.

3FACILITIES AND PERSONNEL


The team in charge of these operations is hereafter listed:

The operation manager commands the procedure. He is the only one authorized to order actions to be taken (GO).


Each operator can halt the procedure at any time (STOP) in case he recognizes hazard conditions.


The deputy supervisor documents the activity with pictures and movies.


Personnel shall wear clean room clothing, which includes: suits, boots, gloves and hair nets. No rings and watches are allowed. Eye glasses shall be secured to the body with over-neck wraps.


4PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS

The following points shall be fulfilled before this procedure can be started.

  1. The telescope shall be horizon pointing in service position.


  1. The mirror cover shall be installed on the unit

5PROCEDURE

The procedure shall be carried out by following these steps.

TASK


  1. Prepare the lifting frame attached to the crane through a load cell (1 ton scale)


  1. Move the crane above the hub


  1. Lower the lifting frame above the hub and install the screws


  1. Align the frame and tighten the screws


  1. Load the crane until the load reaches the theoretical weight of the

M2 = …………… Kg


  1. At this point untighten the screws between the spider and the hub


  1. Remove all the screws between the spider and the hub


  1. Lift the hub hoist it down on the telescope level or trough the hatch and make the hub facing the four interfaces on the tilting frame


NOTE: during the last part of the maneuver the two operators shall guide by hand the hub while the crane operator moves it


  1. Install the four interface studs on the hub before lowering it on the tilting frame


  1. Lower the hub on the tilting frame and install the screws between the four studs and the tilting frame interfaces


  1. Once aligned lower completely the hub on the tilting frame and secure the interface screws


  1. Untighten the lifting frame from the hub and lift it away


  1. Hook the tilting frame rotating part to the crane


  1. Lift the crane and rotate it down to 0 deg


  1. Once reached the correct attitude move the lifting frame onto the hub again and screw it on the second set of threaded holes


  1. Screw the lifting frame and load the crane until reaching the hub weight


M2 = …………..Kg


  1. At this stage unscrew the hub with the four studs (that shall remain attached to the hub)


  1. Detach the tilting frame lifting arm from the crane


  1. Lift away the hub and the interface studs with the crane and made it facing with the transport frame interfaces


  1. Insert screws


  1. Tighten the screws


  1. Unscrew the lifting frame from the hub and remove it by the crane
