ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING – 2017



The Annual General Body Meeting of United Memon Jamat of Pakistan was held on Sunday, 24th December 2017 at A.P.M.F. Board Room, Karachi under the Chairmanship of Senior Vice President, Mr. Muhammad Yunus Bandukda in the absence of Mr. Aziz Memon, President UMJP could not attend since he was not well.


A large number of Office Bearers and Members of Managing Committee and Office Bearers and Members of affiliated Jamats attended the A.G.M. They were invited to express their views which have been answered properly and noted. Mr. Muhammad Afzal Bhujwala stated that members of affiliated Jamats are very active and taking keen interest in the affairs of UMJP. Some representatives of other Jamats who are not affiliated with UMJP also attended the AGM; hopefully, they will join UMJP in future.


The Acting Secretary General, Mr. Muhammad Afzal Bhujwala briefly presented activity report for the years 2016 and 2017. He recorded his gratitude for Mr. Aziz Memon, President UMJP for his kind support and guidance. He also recorded appreciation of all Office Bearers and Members of Managing Committee for their support and cooperation.


Mr. Bhujwala, Acting Secretary General invited Chairmen of Sub-Committees to present activity report of their respective Committees.


T.B. EYE CAMPS & HEPATITUS COMMITTEE


In the absence of Haji Muhammad Hanif Janoo, Chairman, Medical & Eye Camps Committee, Mr. Bhujwala apprised that free medical and eye camps are being organized in interior Sindh regularly for the benefit of poor and underprivileged patients who were not in a position to get treatment.


He appraised that three days eye camp was organized by UMJ Bhiria on 5th, 6th &7th December 2017 at four places namely Khahi Maman, Bhiria Road, Gher Gajjo and Manjhuth. Similarly, a free eye camp was organized at Badin on 8th, 9th and 10th December 2017 at Kaka Latif Bawany Memon Community Center, Badin. Hundred of eye operations were carried out by qualified surgeons free of charge.


The United Memon Jamat Hala is planning to organize Annual Free Eye Camp at Hala with the cooperation of United Memon Jamat of Pakistan, Karachi Secretariat which is a regular feature of every year


EDUCATION COMMITTEE


Mr. Ashfaque Ahmad Memon, Chairman, Education Committee apprised that education facilities are being provided to poor students of the community purely on merit basis.


The Education Committee has started Long Term Education Support Programme. The purpose is to provide education to the students from primary to secondary level ensuring that they are genuinely non-affording and desirous of continuing their education.

During 2016 & 2017 a considerable amount has been disbursed on account of scholarships, financial assistance for higher education for poor & deserving students after verification of area committees as per policy of the United Memon Jamat of Pakistan. He stated that forty students are getting higher education scholarships from UMJP on long term basis.



He briefly presented activity report for the years 2016 and 2017. He recorded his gratitude for Mr. Aziz Memon, President UMJP for his kind support and guidance. He also recorded appreciation of all Office Bearers and Members of Managing Committee for their support and cooperation.


WOMEN EMPOWERMENT COMMITTEE


In the absence of Chairman of Women Empowerment Committee, Mrs. Kiran Afzal Ch-Chair presented repor. She said that the Managing Committee formed a Women Empowerment Committee in order to support and assist the underprivileged women of the community.


A delegation of Women Empowerment Committee consisting of Mr. Abdul Qadir Memon, Mrs. Fareeda Abdul Qadir Memon, Mr. Muhammad Afzal Bhujwala and herself visited Mariam Model School United Memon Jamat, Jati. During the visit, delegation met with the teaching staff of Marium Model School, Jati and other women of the area. Women Empowerment Committee discussed women’s grievances being faced by them and assured to resolve the same. During our visit it was revealed that lady teachers need to be groomed. She said that all Jamats are welcomed to contact us for such assistance.


LEGAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE


The Chairman, Mr. M. Aslam Mulla informed that a Legal Advisory Committee has been formed to help, assist and advice its members of UMJP in legal issues i.e. domestic, corporate and rental faced by them free of cost. The Terms of Reference of Legal Advisory Committee are given in Annual Report; you may contact us on telephone numbers given therein. All deserving members of the Community of United Memon Jamat of Pakistan are requested to contact us for any legal advice they may need in respect of any legal issues. The Committee will try to resolve their legal issues. On your feed back the Committee members may visit your city/village, if found necessary. He informed that Mr. Abdul Nabi Memon has also joined the Committee as its member.


INSTALLATION OF HAND PUMPS COMMITTEE


Mr. Faisal Aboobakar Khanani, Chairman said that UMJP is endeavour to provide hand pumps wherever is scarcity of water. The said that UMJP is ready to help to provide R.O. plant in interior Sindh. He invited all Jamats to contact UMJP in this regard with full details and feasibility report in order to consider the same.


On a resolution presented by the Finance Secretary, Mr. Muhammad Saleem Memon, the august house approved the re-appointment of M/s. Munaf Yusuf & Company as auditors for the financial year 2017-2018.


The President, Senior Vice President and Finance Secretary of All Pakistan Memon Federation were invited to attend the meeting.

He briefed the A.G.M. that UMJP installed hand pumps in rural areas of Sindh and the process is continued to provide drinking water facilities. He invited all Jamats to send their requirements in this connection to UMJP for consideration.


JAMATS COORDINATION COMMITTEE


Mr. Muhammad Afzal Bhujwala, Chairman briefed that the Coordination Committee was formed in order to coordinate between affiliated Jamats and UMJP Secretariat, Karachi. The main purpose of the Committee is to resolve issues / disputes occur between affiliated Jamats and monitor their activities.


A delegation has visited Eye Camps at Jati and Badin recently and Insha Allah we are planning to visit other Jamats soon.


EVENTS ORGANIZING COMMITTEE


In the absence of Mr. Shahzad Sabir, Chairman, Events Organizing Events, Mr. Bhujwala informed the meeting that UMJP under the able guidance of Mr. Aziz Memon, President UMJP has arranged an Annual Dinner on 30th April 2017 to celebrate United Memon Jamat of Pakistan’s 35th years of social welfare services.


EKTA NEWSLETTER


In the absence of Mr. Shahzad Sabir, Chairman, Events Organizing Events, Mr. Bhujwala informed the meeting that UMJP is publishing EKTA Newsletter on quarterly basis under the chairmanship of Mr. Shahzad Sabir regularly to abreast our patrons, life members, donors, affiliated Jamats and well wishers with the activities of UMJP. EKTA Newsletter also highlights the social welfare and other healthy activities of our affiliated Jamats.


The UMJP is trying to upgrade EKTA Newsletter and issue the same on monthly basis. He invited Jamaats to forward their activity reports regularly before time.


MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE


Mr. Abdul Rashid Jumbo, Chairman informed that the admission and annual subscription fees for affiliated Jamats has been increased. However, we are trying hard to welcome new members.


FINANCE COMMITTEE


Mr. Muhammad Saleem Memon, Finance Secretary informed the A.G.M. that since Mr. Aziz Memon took over charge as President, UMJP zakat and donation collections have been increased with his efforts.


The Managing Committee established an Endowment Fund. This fund will help us in taking care of office expenses so that amount received from the donors will be fully utilized for the welfare of the community. Initially, 2.5 million rupees have been contributed by the M.C. Members Patron/Life Members and well wishers. The amount has been invested in long term scheme.

GRAVEYARD COMMITTEE

Mr. Muhammad Saleem Memon, Chairman apprised that a piece of land measuring 2 acres had been acquired by UMJP for Graveyard. Water tanker and other maintenance work are going on. We are trying to get a direct connection from K-Electric and in this regard we will apply soon. Accordingly 124 trees will be planted to provide a cool atmosphere and shadow also. A paid chowkidar is hired to look-after graveyard on daily basis.


PROJECTS & PLANNING COMMITTEE


Mr. Abdul Nabi Memon presented a report published by SUCCESS (Sindh Union Council and Community Economic Strengthening Support Programme). He stated that SUCCESS is an organization being funded by the European Union for empowerment of poor and deserving women of eight districts of Sindh i.e. Dadu, Jamshoro, Larkana, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Jambar and Sajawal.


He briefed the A.G.M. that the prime purpose of the project is to provide help to poor and deserving women of the above districts. According to which there are three kind of help to be provided. A financial grant of Rs.15,000/-, Micro financing upto Rs.30,000/- to start small business and medical assistance upto Rs.25,000/- at any time. In case of hospitalization she can hospitalized in Aga Khan Hospital without any limit of expenses. A lady officer has already been appointed in each district; women of the district can contact the lady officer for help.


Letters alongwith reports of SUCCESS have been sent to five districts of Sindh so that they may contact SUCCESS office for help.


MEMON CENSUS & ECONOMIC SURVEY COMMITTEE


Mr. Ashfaque Ahmad Memon, Chairman informed that committee was formed to start survey for memon communities in Sindh. He requested all affiliated Jamats to send their reports of memon community after carry out census in their areas.


Mr. Muhammad Saleem Memon suggested printing a booklet containing requirement of census and sending to all affiliated Jamats in interior Sindh so they may use it properly.

On the occasion Mr. Muhammad Hanif Motlani, President, APMF expressed his sincere thanks for inviting him and his colleagues to the AGM. He appreciated the social welfare work being done by United Memon Jamat of Pakistan. He assured that our two organizations would support each other and work together for betterment of the community.


Sindhi Ajraks and Caps were presented to Mr. Muhammad Hanif Motlani, President, Mr. Muhammad Hanif Ishaque, Senior Vice President and Mr. Muhammad Yaseen Bakali, Finance Secretary of A.P.M.F. Thereafter lunch was served.
