You ask for the following information from the Ministry of Justice:

How many people have appeared before a magistrates court in Suffolk (North East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court, West Suffolk Magistrates’ Court and South West Suffolk Magistrates’ Court) since the beginning of 2008 charged with possession of cannabis?

How many of those have been handed a jail term specifically for the offence of cannabis possession? (Note: this does not mean were sentenced to imprisonment for charges on the same charge sheet as cannabis, but received a jail sentence for that specific offence).

Of those who were not sentenced to imprisonment, please list what sentences were imposed. Of those handed a jail term, how many of those jail terms were suspended?

Of those handed a jail term, how many of those were for a first offence of cannabis possession?

Please provide results broken down by year.

Table 2 provides the number of offenders sentenced at magistrates courts in the Suffolk Local Criminal Justice Board for possession of cannabis, displayed by Local Justice Area, from 2008 to 2012 broken down by sentence (latest data available)

Table 3 provides the number of offenders sentenced to immediate custody for a first cannabis possession offence in the Suffolk Local Criminal Justice Board, by Local Justice Area, from 2008 to 2012 (latest data available)
