Job Title: Growing Green Spaces Coordinator

Hours: 14 hours per week

Salary: SCP 29, £25,672 per annum pro-rata

Duration: Fixed term for a maximum of 24 months

Location: York CVS, 15 Priory Street, York YO1 6ET

Reporting to: Deputy Chief Executive

Overview of the Post:

York CVS provides the capacity and capability to support Phase Two of Growing Green Spaces. This development work is funded by City of York Council for two years, running to late summer 2021. The impetus for this work has come from:

A desire to maintain standards and quality in selected York parks and open spaces, despite budget restraints, by engaging a range of diverse volunteers.
An increasing understanding of the value of volunteering outside and with others, especially for hard to reach groups and those experiencing social isolation.
An interest in developing the most effective and efficient ways of modern volunteering for York.
A desire to support community groups and voluntary organisations to become more self-sufficient through skills development or the acquisition of expertise.

Main areas of work:

Select, support and monitor the projects supported by the grant funding.

Record and propagate the learning experienced by the projects, blending this with the lessons from Phase One.

Liaise and collaborate with others involved in similar work across York.

Duties and Responsibilities

Design, support and organize a small grants programme. Ensure due diligence, recording and monitoring of expenditure, in lines with project objectives.

Design, support and organize the selection of the projects to be funded.

Maintain connections with the projects, offering support with problem solving, recording the learning (both data and stories), monitoring and evaluation.

Support and organize an advisory group for Growing Green Spaces, working on a strategic approach to its development.

Keep up-to-date with local, regional and national initiatives/developments in this area, especially in the third sector. Maintain positive working relationships with key volunteer and green organisations’ locally.

Ensure a simple communications plan is designed and delivered, along with an active online presence.

Be a point of contact for new organisations wishing to become involved with Growing Green Spaces.

Oversee all project documentation, operational plans and reports, to meet reporting requirements.

Contribute to funding applications/tenders for project sustainability, if and when needed.
