M.PHIL AND PH.D. THESES



  1. OVERALL ASSESSMENT


  1. One of the following categories is usually applicable:


  1. Thesis is unsatisfactory - Fail

  2. Thesis is unsatisfactory - To be revised and resubmitted

for re-examination

  1. Thesis is satisfactory - Minor corrections are required

  2. Thesis is satisfactory - No corrections are required

  3. Thesis requires extensive revision but not re-submission for re-examination


  1. In making a recommendation please note the following:


  1. For all Ph.D. candidates, oral examinations are compulsory;


  1. For M.Phil. candidates, Examiners may wish to examine a candidate’s knowledge further, through an oral examination;


  1. For M.Phil. and Ph.D. theses, Examiners may recommend the award of such degrees with “High Commendation”;


  1. For M.Phil. theses of exceptional standard and potential for further work, Examiners may recommend the transfer of the candidate’s registration to the Ph.D degree.


  1. OBJECTIVES


    1. Are the objectives clearly stated? Is the scope of the research appropriate for the M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree?


  1. METHODOLOGY


    1. Is the research design satisfactory? Are the research methods sound?

    1. Have the objectives been achieved? Does the thesis make an original contribution to the discipline?


  1. INTERPRETATION


    1. Are data properly shown/illustrated, analyzed and interpreted?


  1. PRESENTATION


    1. Is the thesis written in a clear, effective and approved manner?

    1. Please comment on strengths and weaknesses, and indicate any changes which are required, or suggested.
