Chemistry 12 Fall, 2009
Assignment 9
Week November 9, 2006
Due November 16
At long last, we are concluding our introduction to thermodynamics with a discussion of standard absolute entropies.
Don=t be disappointed, though. The fast-moving field of chemical kinetics awaits us! We will discuss the definition of the rate of a chemical reaction, and how thermodynamics, while very useful in discussions of chemical equilibrium, is nearly useless in any discussion of how long it takes a reaction to reach equilibrium.
The following assignment should be prepared for collection at your discussion meeting next week.
Reading: Chapter 10, pp. 425-428
Chapter 15, pp. 703-708
Problems: Chapter 8, #45, 47, 53, 54, 55, 71, 123, 131
Chapter 10, #43, 115, 116
