With regard to local policies to disabled prisoners, you specifically asked for documentation relating to;


Any local policies with regard to disabled prisoners that have been in place at HMP Wakefield January 2013


Any action plans with regard to disabled prisoners that have been in place at HMP Wakefield January 2013


Any equality impact assessments carried out by HMP Wakefield with regard to any policies, criteria or practises which may affect disabled prisoners January 2013


Any access surveys carried out by HMP Wakefield with regard to any area in the prison which cause or may cause difficulties to disabled prisoners gaining access to facilities or services offered since January 2013

I can confirm that the department holds information that you have asked for, and I am pleased to provide this to you.


The policy on ‘Ensuring Equality’ is held in Prison Service Instruction 32/2011. There is a copy of this available for him to view in the library, or the Equality prisoner representative on Mr Guy’s wing have a copy he can borrow to have a look at his leisure.

 

HMP Wakefield did an Equality survey in July this year where they gathered information from every single prisoner regarding their age, identifying sex, any disabilities, sexual orientation and religion. From the results of this questionnaire HMP Wakefield are now trying to organise any relevant reasonable adjustments with regards to the named disabilities
