S/he shall line manage and review designated teachers and support staff as agreed with the Headteacher.
S/he shall line manage the midday supervisors.

In order to secure Mosscroft school’s success and improvement, ensuring high quality education for all its pupils and improved standards of learning and achievement by fulfilling the school’s mission statement “Aiming for Excellence”
To assume the duties of the Head Teacher in her absence. To publicly support the work of the Head Teacher, the Governing Body and the school.
To contribute to, share and promote the vision of the school in its community and to contribute to its achievement and further development.
To play an important role in formulating the aims, objectives and actions of the school improvement plan through self review, implementation monitoring and evaluation, as a lead member of the Senior Management Team.
To assist the Headteacher and governors in formulating appropriate policies for the school, in order for Mosscroft to deliver the most appropriate and effective provision and to support to all its stakeholders
To assist the Headteacher and governors in planning, implementing, leading, monitoring and evaluating the curriculum so that pupils are ensured a broad and balanced curriculum that reflects the school’s context and ethos.
Responsibility for the strategic management of issues relating to Community Cohesion.
Strategic direction and development of a Teaching and Learning across the curriculum
To be proactive in developing the school’s capacity for effective, integrated partnerships, across children’s services, to maximize the quality of provision the school offers its pupils.
To support the Head Teacher and the Governors in budget setting and management.
To attend Governors meetings as required, reporting on issues related to his/her areas of responsibility.
To offer an outstanding professional role model of classroom teaching, setting and maintaining high standards of work and behaviour in and out of the classroom so as to inspire and motivate others.
Direct responsibility for promoting school improvement and raising standards through the leadership of core and foundation subjects, according to the needs of the school
Sharing responsibility with the Headteacher to secure and sustain high pupil expectation in relation to attainment, achievement and behaviour. Ensuring that all pupils within the school meet agreed targets.
Working with the Head Teacher to monitor and evaluate the pupils’ achievement against targets through rigorous monitoring and assessment utilising pupil tracking methods. To use data and benchmarks to set targets for improvement.
Sharing responsibility for ensuring that all teachers are performing as effectively and efficiently as possible and that school systems support staff in the achievement of this.
To assist the Head Teacher in assessing the priorities and needs of the school in making important decisions concerning school policy, in consultation with staff and governors.
To develop and maintain good relations with teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and other stakeholders in school, and inform the Headteacher of any problems they are experiencing and possible help which could be given.
Leading, managing and developing work relating to Community Cohesion across the curriculum and within school.
To be responsible for sharing the delivery of collective worship/school assemblies.
To support the development of extra curricular activities.
Responsibility for the development and implementation of all matters relating to school’s policy.
To support the Head teacher in working with pupils, families and outside agencies to ensure pastoral needs are met in order that every child is given the opportunity to overcome barriers which reduce the opportunity to succeed and prevent them reaching their potential.

Responsibility for the effective placement and management of student training and work experience placements
Managing resources relating to all areas of responsibility.
Responsibility for leading, managing and developing all teaching and learning matters relating to ‘Teaching and Learning Facilitator’ duties
Working within the school’s professional development programme to determine appropriate CPD priorities through school self evaluation and ensure that all staff needs are met
Accountability:
To work with the Headteacher in taking responsibility for and promoting all aspects related to safeguarding the welfare of the children.
Monitoring the progress of staff towards meeting the overall aims and objectives within the areas of responsibility as determined in the school Performance Management Policy.
To take a lead in the target setting process across the school, to monitor performance and analyse results.
To support the Head teacher in the self-review process.
The above responsibilities are subject to the general duties and responsibilities contained in the written statement of conditions of employment (the Contract of Employment).
The post holder is required to support and encourage the school’s ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the Governing Body.
S/he shall be subject to all relevant statutory requirements as detailed in the most recent School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document including the conditions of employment for deputy Headteacher and for teachers other than Headteacher.
The post holder may be required to perform any other reasonable tasks after consultation.
This job description allocates duties and responsibilities but does not direct the particular amount of time to be spent on carrying them out and no part of it may be so constructed.
In particular, attention is drawn to the requirement that ‘Teachers with leadership and management responsibilities are entitled, as far as is reasonably practical, to a reasonable allocation of time within school sessions to support the discharge of their responsibilities’.
In addition ‘a deputy headteacher shall be entitled to reasonable periods of PPA time to enable him/her to discharge his/her duties. This shall amount to not less than 10% of the deputy headteacher’s timetabled teaching time’.
This job description is not necessarily a comprehensive definition of the post. It will be reviewed at least once a year and it may be subject to modification at any time after consultation with the post holder.
All staff members participate in the school’s performance management scheme.
