Have you shot any leader shells lately? A few weeks back I enjoyed writing about Mario Karts. It is a Nintendo video game that mixes NASCAR with war. One of the shells that that the drivers use is called a leader shell. When this shell is launched by a driver in second, third, or down to eighth place it goes directly to the driver in first place, and anyone around them. This is the price for being in first place, or being the leader.

Are you a leader? I am sure you are in some aspect of life. School administrators, county officials, managers at work, business owners, teachers, and pastors are leaders. Coaches, captains of teams, referees, and the board members of sports leagues are leaders. If you are a leader, you know what a leader shell feels like. It's a blast from a parent, citizen, employee, customer, or church member that may come from any direction that has no positive component to it. It is meant to slow you down or to totally stop you.

In Mario Karts, leader shells are fun because everyone can hear them coming. Players will even call out, "Leader shell!" and the player in the lead will try to avoid the blast. Leader shells in real life are no fun, and should not be shot by Christian people in any area of life- whether on the sports field, in the store, or dealing with teachers and administrators. There is a wrong way to do a right thing. You may need to confront an issue, but you don''t need to do it with a blast. There is a lot of anger in our society, but Christians are called to a different standard.

The Bible says, "Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities (leaders). For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves" (Romans 13:1-2). So before you launch a leader shell because you are upset about something... think twice. Not only will you blast a leader or hurt an organization, you may end up getting a blast from God.
