JOB TITLE: Communication & Equalities Officer
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Communications & Administration Manager
JOB PURPOSE
Support the Principal and Executive Team to enable excellent communications both within the organisation and with key external stakeholders – ensuring celebration, college promotion and the development of a strengthened sense of community at WQE, in line with the College vision, culture and ethos and using a variety of platforms.
To co-ordinate and enable activities that positively promote equality and diversity in all aspects of College life; and to support college leaders, other staff and students of the College in fulfilling the requirements and expectations of the Single Equalities scheme.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To effectively and regularly design and produce engaging and on brand written content (press release, blogs, editorial, website stories, LinkedIn articles) and visual content (vlogs, videos, animations) for a range of audiences and platforms that tells our story and makes us stand out. To include:
Generation of creative, on brand ideas
Ability to spot a story and make the most of it
Producing a forward plan of content
Working effectively with other team members
To support the Principal and Executive Team in the development and delivery of regular, quality internal communications that celebrate, highlight and promote key aspects of college life in ways that reflect, involve and engage stakeholders across a diverse range of staff teams and college activity.
To lead, develop, plan, implement and evaluate a range of marketing and communications campaigns and projects integrating both digital and traditional tactics to enable the college to achieve its strategic objectives and recruitment targets.
To ensure consistent use and development of the College’s brand identity and guidelines across all channels and activity.
To provide communications and marketing support and advice to colleagues from across the college and co-ordinate
To be responsible for ensuring our website content is relevant, timely, engaging and on brand. Working with the IT team to ensure it functions correctly and all technical updates required take place in a timely manner e.g., platform renewal
To work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver key marketing projects; providing creative input and ideas to strengthen our brand position to generate enquiries and applications
To continually develop professional knowledge and research market insights by monitoring competitors, researching best practice, keeping up to date with relevant trends and commercial practice and seeking advice from partners and external colleagues.
Develop, promote and support the administration of alumni arrangements in order to help leavers maintain a stronger sense of continuing connection with the College and as a vehicle to more widely celebrate and share positive information about the College.
To support the Associate Principal (Students and Welfare) in the review and promotion of the Single Equalities Scheme, associated action plan and other Equality and Diversity Policies and procedures.
To raise the profile and awareness of Equality and Diversity across the College, through the promotion of College policy documents and the appropriate dissemination of information, publicity and educational provision
To work effectively with colleagues to successfully deliver key events for current and prospective students including a programme of cross college events with an Equality and Diversity focus
To liaise with external agencies to maximise Equality and Diversity related opportunities for students and staff
To chair the student and staff Diversity forum
To liaise with and endeavour to resolve equalities issues referred by the Student Executive Equalities Officer, or refer to the Associate Principal (Students and Welfare) as appropriate
To undertake the management of the contemplation spaces
To contribute to the planning and delivery of Equality and Diversity training for both staff and students
Attend external events in line with the purpose of the role
Administration duties as appropriate
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To ensure the adherence to the College’s policies and procedures with regard to the safeguarding of, and promotion of, the welfare of students
To ensure the application of the College’s Single Equality Scheme including valuing diversity and promoting equality
To implement the College’s Health & Safety policy and procedures within the post holder’s own area of responsibility
To support, promote and operate in line with the College mission and values
Commitment to the continuous improvement of services offered by the College
Any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role as required
NOTES

The nature of the work involved in this role will on occasions require some flexibility over hours of work to facilitate meetings and other interactions with parents/carers or to attend external events.
The post holder will be expected to undertake such other duties, within the general scope of the post, as may be required from time to time by the Principal (subject to the terms of the postholder’s contract of employment)
