2014-2015 Western Ambassadors Handbook

History

The Western Ambassadors were established in the 2001-2002 school year by Larry Duffy and Alice Newman. In 2002-2003 the organization became a President’s Leadership Scholarship program, while continuing to focus on the development of leadership and speaking potential. President Phil Birdine supports the organization by providing scholarship opportunities and leadership development activities.

Mission

The mission of the Western Ambassadors is to develop student leadership and public speaking potential, as well as actively recruit prospective WOSC students and future ambassadors.

Selection

  1. Applications will be reviewed and selections for interviews will be determined by members of the selection committee.

  2. Representatives of Western Oklahoma State College, consisting of faculty, professional staff and administration, will select individuals through an interview process to participate in Boot Camp.

  3. Boot Camp is a 4 hour meeting consisting of team building activities. During Boot Camp candidates and returning Ambassadors are observed to see how well they work as a team in a variety of situations. At the end of Boot Camp Western Ambassadors will be selected.

  4. Alternates may be selected and may be called on to serve if an active Ambassador resigns or is removed.
