Online Debate toward the Civil Society Roundtable at WUF3
30 years after the 1976 Habitat I Summit in Canada, governmental and civil society representatives will gather again in Vancouver next June under the motto: "turn ideas into action".
HIC coordinates the Civil Society Roundtable at WUF3: *Assets and
Struggles: 30 years after Vancouver Habitat Forum: Realizing the Right to Adequate Housing, Sustainable Habitat and Inclusive Cities.*
The basic question of the on-line debate is:
*What has been won, what still remains of those gains, and what has been lost from Vancouver 1976 to the present, through Habitat II to the present MDGs and "cities without slums" program?*
How to turn “ideas into action”?
We need to argue about what can be done to ensure people’s inclusion into all processes related to their habitat and well-being. The idea is to influence the shape and course of policies for action.
The debate will be structured on some triggering assumptions and around three case studies:
- Aceh post-tsunami rehabilitation,
- Harare evictions and
- Katrina Survivors
to prompt discussion and questions that could help trigger action proposals.
HIC invites everybody to participate and contribute ideas in the on-line debate during a session to be held during May 2006.
