Outcome 1: Prepare and dispense medications: Assure safe and accurate preparation, dispensing and administration of medications.

Outcome 2: Provide patient-centered care: Design, implement, monitor, evaluate, and adjust pharmaceutical care plans that are patient-specific and evidence-based to optimize therapeutic outcomes.

Outcome 3: Provide population-based care: Develop, implement and monitor evidence-based population-specific disease management programs and protocols through analysis of epidemiologic and pharmacoeconomic data, medication use criteria, medication use review and risk reduction strategies.

Outcome 4: Promote health, wellness, and disease prevention: Collaborate with patients, communities, at-risk populations, stakeholders and interprofessional health care providers to promote wellbeing.

Course Format

The course is delivered using a combination of video conference-live classroom/Blackboard transmission to multiple sites. Faculty from all sites may be used to deliver the course.


Delivery Methods (Teaching Methodology)


Course content will be delivered using a variety of teaching and learning methods including lectures, in-class and online discussions, assigned readings, self-study modules, and assignments. Class meetings will consist predominantly of lectures and informal open discussions.


Blackboard will be used to provide and supplement course materials; to conduct online discussions; and to provide links to resources. Students are encouraged to complete the Blackboard Tutorial and Quiz within the first week of the course. All course handouts and information will be available to students through Blackboard. Handouts will not be provided in class. All course materials will be provided in Adobe Portable Document Format. Adobe Acrobat Reader and Power Point Viewer can be downloaded free at:

Students must have access to a printer, and computer with internet connection, to allow them to access internet and web resources, and download and print course material.

Selected readings from the primary literature or other sources may be provided to supplement or replace the textbook readings. There may be weekly reading assignments. It is the student’s responsibility to read the assigned material prior to attending class.


Graded course assessments (quizzes and exams) will be administered using ExamSoft (SofTest-M for iPad).  Each student is responsible for maintaining appropriate iPad and software configurations for this purpose.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure functionality (hardware, wireless network access, battery charge, sufficient memory, etc) prior to each assessment.  Students should contact ExamSoft at [email protected] or 1-866-429-8889 for issues and technical support. –This paragraph will need to be added to the P1, P2 2014-2015 syllabi, but not to P3.


Course Policies


  1. Professional Behavior

Students must conduct themselves in a professional manner. This includes maintaining the proper dress code set by the College and being courteous to classmates, facilitators and instructors both in class and online. Individuals, who do not conduct themselves professionally, will be subject to disciplinary action.


  1. Academic Dishonesty

Academic honesty and integrity are fundamental values expected of all students. Students should avoid the appearance of impropriety in all activities. Cheating, or the appearance of cheating, will not be tolerated and is subject to disciplinary action. Cheating includes, but is not limited to:




  1. Attendance/Tardiness

Attendance is strongly recommended. (Faculty may alter statement based on course policies) The College of Pharmacy Office of Student Services will be responsible for determining excused absences. Students are responsible for obtaining materials and completing assignments missed when absent.


Variables:

Classes begin at 10 minutes after the hour.

Students shall not enter the classroom after that time.

Tardy students must wait outside the classroom until a break has been given by the instructor. Students not seated when class begins may be marked absent.

  1. Make-up Policy

Excused absences do not entitle students to have the opportunity to make up in-class quizzes or assignments. Make-up examinations will only be given for approved excused absences and at the discretion and convenience of the faculty coordinator. The format of the make-up examination may vary from the original exam.

Course announcements will be made either in class, on Blackboard or NSU email. Students are responsible for accessing and responding to all information disseminated through these.
