JOB DESCRIPTION



POST: Home Manager


RESPONSIBLE TO: Operations Manager


RESPONSIBLE FOR: The day-to-day management of the care home. The safety and well being of all residents, staff and visitors within the Home and to act in accordance with the requirements of the Care Quality Commission and associated regulations.


ACCOUNTABLE FOR: All staff within the Home.


JOB SUMMARY


The post holder will promote the belief that living at Eothen Homes Wallsend is all about feeling that you matter and that each day you feel meaningfully occupied, needed and loved.


Lead and inspire exceptional person centred care in concordance with the chosen model of care.


Be uncompromising in relation to quality of care, service and the lived experience.


Maintain the Christian objectives of the Home, and to ensure that the residents are able to continue the expression of their Christian faith, and that they are supported in this.


Motivate staff to ensure they reach their full potential and are happy in their work and gain job satisfaction along with full and ongoing training.


Co-operate fully with the Operations Manager in all aspects of the management of the Home and to be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. The provision of quality care and support for everyone living in the home, ensuring physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs are supported.



  1. To be an inspirational leader that demonstrates a passion for dementia care and supporting people’s quality of life.



  1. To ensure people living in the home are able to achieve and retain as much independent control over their lives as possible.



  1. To have overall responsibility for the general day-to-day administration of the home, ensuring it is run in accordance with national and local regulations and Eothen Homes’ ethos.


5 To be involved in budgetary control and sole responsibility of petty cash.


6 To ensure in conjunction with the Operations Manager the maintenance of the building and all equipment.

QUALITY OF CARE, SERVICE AND THE LIVED EXPERIENCE:

  1. Responsible for the effective initial assessments of people seeking to live in the home, making appropriate arrangements.


  1. Be familiar with each person living in the home and have overall responsibility for ensuring the support they receive is appropriate to their needs; enabling quality of life.



  1. Responsible for the promotion of the independence and individuality of residents by training staff to create support plans that encourage active participation by residents in the running of the home.


  1. Lead the team on merging clinical care, personal care and quality of life.



  1. Monitor the quality of care, ensuring that it is up to the high standard required by Eothen Homes, CQC, and other standards and regulations.



  1. Responsible for the safe dispensing of medication in the home.


COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING:

  1. Maintain effective communication with the leadership team, staff, people living at Eothen Homes Wallsend, their relatives and other stakeholders.


  1. Foster good relationships with local community groups, promoting integration wherever possible. Encourage relatives and friends to be part of the home and maintain links with the community.



  1. Responsible for liaising with the relevant GPs, CCG and/or Community Mental Health support services in regard to the welfare of individual residents.



GOVERNANCE:

  1. Be responsible for the management of health and safety systems.


  1. Coordinate positive care planning that supports each person’s strengths, abilities and choice.



  1. Ensure that all documentation, care and support is compliant with relevant legislation and inspection bodies and undertake statutory reporting as required.



  1. Adhere to and implement HR policies and procedures, leading the positive recruitment of suitable employees, effective inductions appraisal and development of the team with continuous personal development and learning.



  1. Responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing levels at all times.



  1. To review data collected and map trends.




LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT:

  1. Maintain and update your knowledge and skills while managing the care home; keeping abreast of the latest developments in dementia care.


  1. Model and monitor person centred practice with the staff team.



  1. Ensure all team members are provided with relevant and effective learning and development opportunities.



  1. Undertake personal supervision and be appraised on being person centred



  1. If a nurse – then CPD and validation to remain registered


PROMOTION:

  1. Assist with the PR and marketing of the home.



  1. Provide clarity on the model of dementia care to all stakeholders including staff, families, commissioners and visiting professionals.


RESOURCES


The advice and support of the Operations Manager, Head Office and Home staff; the equipment and facilities of the home.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


The post holder will have a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care or be willing to work towards this and/or hold a professional qualification such as nursing. They must also have experience of working with elderly people with dementia in a residential setting and management experience.


PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES


Must have strong leadership qualities, effective communication and interpersonal skills which are essential for developing an overall nurturing approach and able to build good relationships with people living and working in the home, relatives, outside agencies and professionals.
