Living in Nottingham
With a 10% student population,
Nottingham is a lively and vibrant city with a large number of
amenities specifically aimed at students. With its combination of
Asian, African and Caribbean communities Nottingham is a cosmopolitan
and multicultural city. Due to a tendency to celebrate culinary,
musical and religious aspects of cultural diversity, the city is a
friendly and welcoming place for international students. With a host
of pubs, clubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres and galleries offering
student discounts, you'll find many activities to enjoy in your free
time. You may also be interested to know that Nottingham has
more sports facilities per head than anywhere else in Europe.
University Life
We're lucky enough to be located in Nottingham, one of the UK’s most stylish and lively cities. A top five shopping destination, the city is big in terms of culture and atmosphere, but small enough to walk around in a day. Even when visiting for the first time, our students feel instinctively at home.
At NTU, life on campus and Nottingham city life go hand-in-hand.
City campus is located in the heart of Nottingham and can provide you with the perfect combination: all of the study facilities you could hope for complete with the pubs, clubs and restaurants necessary to let your hair down.
Clifton campus is a self-contained site that has recently benefited from significant investment, leading to a refurbished and extended library and a student centre for support and career services.
Brackenhurst is an idyllic 200-hectare estate in the heart of the countryside, complete with an animal farm and equestrian centre, ideally situated just 14 miles from the city centre.
Nottingham has more sports facilities per head than anywhere else in Europe. We're also blessed by beautiful countryside within easy reach of the city, such as the beautiful Derbyshire Dales and Peak District for rock climbers and walkers. There's also the National Water Sports centre at Holme Pierrepont.
In addition to tuition fees, we estimate that you will need approximately £600-£680 per month for living expenses. Some students spend more than this, some less depending on lifestyle.

If you are already interested in outdoor pursuits you will be spoilt for choice by the full range of opportunities available on the University's doorstep. Snowdonia is the adventure capital of the UK with a high concentration of opportunities, from exceptional rock climbing to scrambling and hill walking to abundances of water sports including canoeing, kayaking, surfing, sailing and sea kayaking.
Bangor has its very own Victorian Pier which was built in 1896 and lovingly restored in the 1980’s. It stretches halfway across the Menai Straits and is surrounded by traditional pubs and restaurants. The pier is a popular spot for students to revise when the sun’s out in summer
University Life
The Students Union's Time nightclub
provides much of the focus on the entertainment front. Recent events
have included performers such as Goldie Looking Chain, Tim Westwood,
Trevor Nelson, Girls Aloud and Lemar.
In the city centre
of Bangor you'll find the longest High Street in Wales. The centre
has all the facilities students would expect from a University city,
theatre, multi-screen cinema, night clubs, shops including high
street branded stores, shops selling food from all over the world, a
wide range of restaurants and eating places offering cuisine from
e.g. India, China and Italy. All of this as well as popular student
pubs and take-ways in the busy 'student village' area of Upper
Bangor.
The University of Wales, Bangor was established in 1884 and has a long tradition of academic excellence that continues to this day. Over half of the departments at Bangor have received an ‘Excellent’ rating for the quality for teaching, and the University’s performance in the latest Research Assessment Exercise confirms our status as a world-class research institution. In recent assessments conducted on behalf of the Government into the quality of research at UK universities, 6 Bangor departments were awarded the top rating of 5 (on a scale of 1 - 5) and 7 departments were rated 4. Ratings of 4 and 5 indicate that research of international importance is conducted. This is highlighted by our recent success in doubling the number of research contracts won, bringing Bangor’s research contract income close to £20million.
