Driver / Administrative Assistant


The Defence Section in the Australian Embassy has a vacancy for a Driver / Administrative Assistant.


The successful applicant will be required to work cooperatively and flexibly as part of a small team under the supervision of the Defence Office Manager. Hours will be based on a flexible daily demand up to forty hours per week.


The position will be at the Locally Engaged 2 level with a starting salary of KRW 33,227,322 per annum. The position is for an initial period of 12 months.

Fleet Operation

  • Drive official vehicles as directed. Provide a courteous service to clients including Defence, DFAT and attached agencies officers, locally engaged staff, and guests of the Embassy.


  • Provide a high level of support to visiting delegations in relation to transport requirements including planning driving tasks and liaison with Korean authorities..


  • Ensure the proper maintenance of the Defence vehicle including regular inspections, refueling, cleaning, and arranging servicing in accordance with relevant regulations. This extends to other Embassy vehicles as required.


  • Ensure that proper records are kept in relation to vehicle usage, fuel and lubricant consumption and other vehicle matters in accordance with relevant regulations.


  • Complete accident reporting in accordance with local laws and Australian Department of Defence guidelines

  • Provide timely and accurate transport planning advice on routes, traffic and timing. Independently research routes in advance to ensure efficient transit between destinations.




Administrative Assistant

  • Assist with personnel and vehicle access forms, including the airport protocol process

  • Conduct basic administrative and financial tasks as directed; including management of documents and files in accordance with Defence Section procedures. Assist with simple procurements and prepare simple claim forms


  • Maintain Defence Section property registers.


  • Assist with section property management, including some work off-site at Defence residences (including escorting contractors).


  • Other duties as required




Driver / Administrative Assistant - Selection Criteria


A. Excellent attention to detail, customer service attitude and an ability to develop productive working relationships with colleagues.


B. A demonstrated driving ability including holding a current Korean drivers license for passenger vehicles; a driving history of at least twelve months without infringement or disqualification of license; and, competence in use of satellite navigation systems.


C. The ability to operate a personal computer for basic office functions such as word processing and filing of electronic records; making travel, hotel and other bookings as well as route/traffic planning.


D. A good level of both written and spoken Korean and English languages including the ability to comprehend Australian government departmental regulations.


E. The ability to work efficiently and effectively as a member of a small team.


F. The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and clients.


G. A basic understanding of vehicle maintenance procedures including basic safety checks such as tyre pressures and checking of fluid levels.
