Recommendations from the Ad Hoc Technology Committee and the Instructional Technology Committee approved by the President:
The following six computer labs are recommended to receive TAF subsidies through category 3 and equipment through category 1: Library, BAS, LRC, Adaptive Technologies, KOM, and AMG.
All TAF subsidized labs should be advertised through a name change to University Computer Lab at Location, such as, University Computer Lab at Walker Library, University Computer Lab at KOM, University Adaptive Technologies Computer Lab at Walker Library, etc, and banners similar to the 24/7 computer lab.
The recommended TAF subsidized labs should adhere to the following criteria:
maintain a separate departmental/college account number to track lab funding from sources other than TAF
utilize the ITD determined standard software to track student usage by college and hour
confirm lab’s primary usage is non-discipline specific – student use and software
support general student access through location, size of lab and hours of operation
complement the university’s overall academic computer lab needs
adhere to all other TAF guidelines, such as:
all computer lab student help must participate totally in the STA program
lab cannot charge students for printing
classes are not routinely scheduled in the lab space
lab allows all students to equally use the lab to email and complete homework
display a common, unified disclaimer regarding the prohibition of using the computer for sharing of copyright information as part of a background screen
These labs would qualify for TAF categories 1 and 3. During the year, these recommended labs would be closely monitored to ensure they are adhering to all criteria and to provide data for the Instructional Technology Committee to determine TAF subsidies for the 2007-2008 fiscal year. Failure to adhere to criteria could result in loss of subsidy.
Those computer labs no longer eligible for the category 1 and category 3 will be contacted to explain funding through other TAF categories, to encourage funding through other local sources such as departmental funds, and to describe possible options in changing the function of space.
