Opening Prayer. Doran Donovan led the PPC in the opening prayer, a prayer recited before ninth and tenth grade religious education classes.

Minutes of Meeting. The March 14, 2018 PPC minutes were accepted as corrected. The corrections were as follows: (1) Record Doran Donovan as present; (2) On page 1 under Liturgy on the last line, change “it’s” to “its”; (3) On page 2 under Liturgy, change the date of Appreciation Night from April “29” to April “21”; (4) Change the word “shroud” to “draperies” everywhere it appears on page 2 under Comments and Concerns.

Pastor Update.

Father Jim reported that Claire McKenna, with our custodian’s help, did a beautiful job in reupholstering the presider’s chair in church.

Appreciation was conveyed by Father to all who helped to make the Triduum a beautiful and meaningful event. The fire alarm that went off at the start of the Holy Thursday service was due to the smoke and heat that accumulated in the church from the burning of incense. Father was pleased that so many turned out for Easter Sunday services. A very busy week ensued following Easter, with four funerals.

Father Jim thanked John Pescatore for serving as an altar boy since Grade 4, eight years of service to St. Eulalia’s.

On Thursday, April 19, Father Richard Erikson will arrive at St. Mary’s. He and Father Mulloy, who has been assisting at St. Mary’s, will concelebrate Friday’s 9 a.m. Mass.

PPC Elections

Nominations for PPC will be accepted now through the weekend of April 28/29. PPC members are encouraged to solicit nominations. There are currently three members whose terms have expired and are no longer eligible to run. They are: Kathy Creedon, Doran Donovan, and Anna-Marie Ferraro. Those who have completed their first term and will seek reelection are: Adele Hamblett, Clare Keane, and Claire McKenna. Joan Sweeney also expressed her intention to run. The nomination form will list the names of those willing to continue to serve on PPC and those not eligible to run.

Under the new constitution, there should be four nominees for each of the three categories created: parents, parishioners from the general population and youth with two from each category to be elected. As our current two PPC members from the youth category will be attending college in the fall and will no longer be able to serve, it was suggested that current high school sophomores be solicited so that they may be available to serve a term of two years. The pastor could appoint two youth to fill the one-year vacancy for those in the youth category attending college.

The Election Committee will consist of: Brian Burke, Jessica Callaghan, Mary Deyst and Doran Donovan. Doran Donovan will serve as chairperson. The following are some of the duties of the chairperson: see that relevant announcements are placed in the church bulletin, make sure that ballots are printed and placed in the pews at all the Masses as well as seeing to the counting of the ballots, call those running with the results, call all nominees to be sure they wish to run for PPC, see that biographies and pictures of the nominees are placed on the bulletin board and placed at the back of the church.

PPC elections will be held the weekend of May 19/20.

Comments and Concerns

The following were the comments received:

Our new website, sainteulalia.org, now has all of the PPC Minutes posted as well as its updated constitution. It was suggested that all information regarding PPC elections be placed on that website.

Father Jim reported that the old website was still up and how exactly to eliminate it was being researched. A PPC member made a suggestion to create a link on the old website that would take the “visitor” to St. Eulalia’s new website. (Father Jim followed up with an e-mail to PPC members informing them that a link to the new website had been created on the old website.)

Closing Prayer. The meeting closed with a prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Ellen Connell, PPC Secretary
