More information:

I grew up in the very East of Ukraine, where people speak Russian as a native language. But of course, as Ukraine’s state language is Ukrainian, I started learning it in elementary school and, having lived in a bilingual country for most of my life, I now understand Ukrainian perfectly and speak it fluently. Yet, I prefer not to make any translations into Ukrainian because I believe that to create a stylistically and grammatically correct translation a translator should have an academic background in the target language.

At university I majored in Russian and English language and literature. But my subsequent job required some knowledge in the field of coal sampling and processing, so I had to learn it fast. I worked for Ukrainian Technical Committee for Standardization TK 92 “Coal and Products of Its Processing” which takes part in developing national and international standards for various technical procedures in coal industry. My job was to translate into Russian drafts of international standards while they were being worked on and formed into final documents by International Organization for Standardization. I also had to translate our Committee's amendments and suggestions on the draft international standards from Russian into English.

However, my linguistic background rules in my mind and I greatly enjoy working with literature and poetry. My Master Degree thesis was on stylistics of Russian translations for Lewis Carroll’s books. I enjoyed exploring how various masters of translation (N.Demurova, V.Nabokov etc.) had to work around Carroll's tricky puns and logical inversions. I guess I can say I learned from the best.

Now I live in USA and work as a free-lance translator. Mostly busy with literary translations.
