Bangor Rangers IV 5 – 4 Queens Grads IV

Bangor Rangers Fourths made it 4 wins from 4 games in the Reserve Team Shield when they defeated Queens Grads IV at Bloomfield Playing Fields on Saturday.

Rangers were first out of the blocks and were playing some good football with the fullbacks having plenty of space. However, they went a goal behind when they gifted the Queens forward a soft goal. Within 5 minutes Rangers were level when the referee awarded a penalty for a handball which Alan Crawford duly converted.

Queens then went in front again when a defensive blunder gifted their forward with an open goal. Queens should have gone further ahead when the referee awarded them a penalty for a foul by Alan Bunting on the Queens forward who ended up having to be carried off but Bunting made up for his error by saving the spot kick. Rangers equalised again when good work up the left flank resulted with Stephen Orchin receiving the ball on the edge of the box, he looked up and placed the ball over the keeper and under the bar, a great way to open your account for the Club.

The second half was only minutes old when Queens went in front again when their forward shot home from 25 yards. Rangers levelled it at 3-3 when Willie Connor’s free kick was turned into his own net by a Queen’s defender.

For the fourth time Queens took the lead when they broke down the left and their midfielder squared the ball for their forward to tap home from close range. Ricky McKee then got his customary goal when he twisted and turned in the box and shot home past the keeper. Rangers eventually got their heads in front when good work up the left from Gareth McKinstry and Ricky McKee resulted in the latter passing to Alan Crawford to shoot home off the post from 14 yards.

Rangers were not going to let their lead slip and held out until the final whistle. Rangers show great resilience during this game coming from a goal down 4 times to eventually win the game 5-4. Bangor Rangers would like to wish the Queens forward a speedy recovery from what initially looks to be a nasty injury.
