Objectives:
Determine leaf arrangements on a plant stem
Identify leaf venation patterns
Materials:
Power Point Presentation
Leaf and stem cuttings
White paper
Color pencils
Preparation:
Interest Approach:
Have stem and leaf cuttings on the table so the students can pick up a piece as they enter the classroom. We will talk about what they think the differences are in all the cuttings. After we discuss the different cuttings we will move to the lesson. We will talk about what trees the cuttings come from and how you identify them.
Presentation:
We will begin class with a lecture/PowerPoint about the different venations and leaf arrangements. During the presentation, we will look at pictures of the various types.
Application:
The students will be required to draw each of the leaf arrangements and venations on the white paper and label each drawing. This activity will be turned in at the end of the class period.
Evaluation:
We will review the leaf arrangements and venations by looking at the leaf and stem cuttings.
