His reggae melodies have mesmerized audiences for the past nine years. His smoothing high-pitched bird voice gives a sensation shiver all the way through your spine. As he continues his sweet soft lyrics excites your heart and finally it gives you an ultimate calmness within your soul. To some, Baby ‘J’ is the young awaking voice of Jamaican tune, an original and unique artist who has an irresistible style of his own.

B BABY J “THE REGGAE SUPERSTAR” HIS REGGAE MELODIES HAVE orn Yonas Kahassai on February 8, 1974 in Eritrea, a small country in East Africa just west of Ethiopia. He attended Arai Middle School in Chicago where he played basketball and was given the nickname, Baby Jordan, hence the shortened name of Baby J.

In 1996, Baby J started to DJ at various clubs and the name Baby J followed him. One night while Magic Rocker was helping Baby J improve his mixing and blending, Baby J began humming some tune. Magic Rocker, in his creative mind, secretly recorded these sounds. He then played it back for the both of them to hear. The both of them could not believe the sweetness of Baby J’s voice. Before long, Baby J started to perform live at the Wild Hare with Gizzae, the number one band in Chicago land, as well as other talented artists.

One Sunday night, with the supporting sounds of Gizzae, Baby J rocked the house and tore the stage apart. From that point on, people recognized him as Chicago land’s Reggae Superstar. And let’s not forget that on January 13, 2003, Baby J was featured at the Isaac Hayes Restaurant and Bar on Clark Street in downtown Chicago. He played along with Sawa Band, some of the gifted magicians in the city. And we can’t forget to mention that the house was packed.

Baby J has entertained audiences throughout the city of Chicago, performing back-to-back in various events, with affiliation with the Chicago Park District, Performing Arts Center, the “Taste of Austin”, Maywood Festival, The Wild Hare, Excedus II and other community events and dance halls.

Baby J’s talents have not gone without being recognized. He is proud to receive such honors as:

He was also nominated at the 2003 Chicago Music Awards for Best Reggae CD/Album.

There are many that have contributed to the career of Baby J. He has had the honor of working with such artists and productions such as Magic Rocker, Gizzae, Michael Black, Qwame, Tropical Riddim & Beats, Randolph Coleman, Reggae Vibes, and Slacky J. Baby J’s fans are the ones that keep him singing and feeling his music. He gets much support from the Chicago Cubs, Eric Young, and many others. Baby J’s first introduction was CD entitled “Your Body’s Calling Me”.
