Matthew Clarke




Matthew Clarke

With a background in teaching and social work Matthew has held several senior management posts in both Health and Social Service Departments. In 1992 he founded Alternative Futures, a large Knowsley based charity which provides services for people with learning disabilities and enduring mental health needs. Matthew served as the Chief Executive of Alternative Futures for sixteen years before retiring in 2007. Latterly he has assisted several charities and remains convinced of the importance of the contribution made by the ‘not for profit’ sector in the delivery of services.


Yvonne Owens

Yvonne has served as a Trustee since 2003 and sits on a number of committees in Knowsley, including Older Peoples Voice, the Knowsley User Led Organisation (ULO) and the Knowsley Local Involvement Network (LINK) which looks as health and social care issues across the Borough. Yvonne has a visual impairment a key focus of her role as a Trustee is to ensure that KDC’s communication materials, including its Website, are fully accessible for people with all abilities. Yvonne also works as a Friend Communicator for residents of a local care home.


Jamie Quinn

Jamie was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2005 and has been involved with KDC as a service user and volunteer assistant for more than 20 years. Jamie has physical and learning disabilities and represents people with similar challenges in his role as a member of the Board’s Customer Focus Committee. Jamie volunteers his services one day a week to support the smooth running of the office and administration functions and he is also a member of the Knowsley User Led Organisation.


Amanda Thomson

Amanda is one of KDC’s longest serving Trustees and was appointed to the new Board formed when the Charity was reconstituted as a limited company in 2003. Amanda is Chair of the Customer Focus Committee which is responsible for ensuring that KDC’s strategic plans are developed to reflect the needs of the community of disabled people in Knowsley by people who directly represent that community. Amanda has a mild learning disability is KDC’s Volunteer Housekeeping Coordinator.


Tony Foster (Chair)

With a background in education and the Police service, Tony retired as a Consultant Forensic Collision Investigator in 2004. In addition to his commitment to KDC, Tony has served on numerous committees within the community and is actively involved as a Volunteer with a local hospice.
