Device Drivers for NetWare

[Introduction]
Novell NetWare v3.1x provides users with a Local Area Network (LAN) featuring
sophisticated networking capabilities. The NCR SDMS 3.0 drivers allow the
user to utilize an NCR SCSI controller or process or containing an NCR SCSI
BIOS with NetWare. SCSI peripherals connected to the server with SDMS driver
support will function just like other non-SCSI peripherals. The SDMS 3.0
software provides an NCR SCSI solution within the NetWare environment. The
following information will assist in a successful installation of the NCR
  SDMS SCSI drivers.

[NetWare v3.1x]
  Features
Full support for disk mirroring and duplexing
    Support for the ASPI interface
    Synchronous negotiation (including fast SCSI)
    Supports multiple host adapters
Multiple logical unit number (LUN) support
    Disconnect/Reselect
    Supports scatter-gather
    Tagged command queuing

  Description
There are several files provided with SDMS 3.0 which must be loaded. The
main NCR SDMS 3.0 device drivers for NetWare v3.1x are NCRSDMSx.DSK,
NCRSDMSx.DDI, and ASPICAMx.NLM. The file ASPICAM.NLM is the ASPI manager,
and must be loaded if support for the ASPI interface is desired. The DOS
device driver DOSCAM.SYS must always be loaded since it acts as the
interface between your computer system and the SCSI controller containing
the SCSI core firmware (refer to Chapter Two, Device Drivers for DOS/Windows
for more information about this driver).

  Installation
Install NetWare as described in the Novell NetWare 386 Installation Manual.
The following information is provided to assist in the installation.
1.Ensure that your host bus adapter card is set with the proper
jumper settings for your system. See the documentation supplied by the
      card manufacturer.
2.Create a bootable DOS system diskette from which to start your computer
system. Use the COPY command to copy the DOSCAM.SYS device driver
from the NCR SDMS SCSI Drivers diskette to your new boot disk. For
details about the COPY command, consult your MS-DOS manual.
3.Modify your CONFIG.SYS file on the bootable disk by adding the
      following line to the bottom:
        DEVICE=C:<PATH>DOSCAM.SYS
The NCR SDMS 3.0 device driver DOSCAM version 3.x is required to run the
server under NetWare 386. When the device driver is loaded (as part of
the CONFIG.SYS file), the user may verify the version number at bootup
as it is displayed on the monitor following the SCSI BIOS version
      information.
4.Use the DOS FDISK utility to create a DOS partition on the hard disk
drive. First, remove any and all existing partitions from the hard drive.
Then create the DOS primary partition. Be sure to set the partition to
"active". Ensure that the remainder of the drive is unpartitioned. The
remaining free space on the drive will be dedicated to NetWare. For
additional details about FDISK, consult your MS-DOS manual.
5.Using the DOS FORMAT command, format the DOS partition as the system
partition. At the DOS prompt, type:
        FORMAT C: /S
This will allow the system to boot from the hard disk drive.
6.From the bootable floppy diskette, copy the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
files, and the SCSI device driver DOSCAM to the C: drive.
7.Create a directory called NET311. Copy the files of NET3 directory from
the NCR device drivers diskette into this directory.
8.Copy all the files from the NetWare system disks into the NET31x
      directory.
9.Reboot the computer from the hard disk drive. To start the server
program, enter the NET311 directory and type:
        SERVER
10.When prompted, enter the name of the file server. See the chapter on file
server installation in the NetWare installation manual for restrictions.
11.When prompted, enter the network (IPX) number. Any number not already
used will do. See the chapter on file server in stallation in the NetWare
      Installation manual for further information.
    12.At the NetWare prompt, type:
        LOAD NCRSDMS3
This command will cause all the main drivers to be loaded. Without this
command, NetWare will be unable to access the hard disk drive. If ASPI
      support is desired, also type:
        LOAD ASPICAM3
13.To bring up the installation menu, at the NetWare prompt type:
        LOAD INSTALL
Continue with the installation according to the file server installation
chapter in the Novell NetWare installation manual.
14.At the Available System Options menu, select the EDIT STARTUP.NCF option
and check to see that the line LOAD NCRSDMS3 is in the file. If not, add
this line to the file. This eliminates the need to load drivers by hand
every time the system is powered up.

  Command Line Options
There are no command line options with the NetWare SCSI device drivers.

  Trouble Shooting
    1.NCRSDMS3 LOCKS UP.
a.DOSCAM may not be loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file, it should be loaded.
b.SCSIDISK may be loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file, it should not be loaded.
2.NO NETWARE PARTITIONS ARE ACCESSIBLE UNDER INSTALL.
This could be a problem with the NetWare drivers. Make sure NCRSDMS3.DSK
and NCRSDMS3.DDI and in the NET311 directory and loaded.
