PRAYER PARTNERS INVITE YOU TO PRAY

Each week the prayer partners invite you to pray with us for a specific concern.  This month’s special offering goes to the St. Paul’s Soup Kitchen.  St. Paul’s provides emergency shelter for the homeless and for the severely mentally ill, along with support services and free lunches.  Pray that we will be generous in supporting St. Paul’s.  Pray for those that they serve, who are in such desperate need.  Pray that all who serve, will be strengthened in the face of so much need.

MUSIC NOTE FOR WORSHIP

The Thirty Years’ War (1618-1648) left most of Europe riddled with poverty, devastation and lawlessness. The composer and author of If You but Trust in God To Guide You (ELW 769) and WER NUN DEN LIEBEN LÄSST WALTEN, Georg Neumark (1621-1681), had firsthand experience of the social upheaval of the times: he barely escaped with his life one day in the fall of 1641 after being robbed of everything except for his prayer book and a few coins sewn into his clothes. The hymn came to him in a bout of gratitude to God for allowing him to walk away from this potentially lethal encounter unscathed. In the context of today’s Gospel and its commentary on our prayer life, the hymn calls us to fervently pray knowing that God is listening to every word. As the second verse of the hymn suggests, worrying is preposterous: Christ will bring us safe in every loss. The last time Zoar sang this hymn as the hymn of the day was on 6/28/2014.
