Student Access to Indoor Areas policy

@ 30 May 2017

Rationale

The college recognises the need to provide students with appropriate recreational spaces for passive activities and in times of inclement weather, and expects all students to act in accordance with college values and guidelines when using these spaces.

As a general rule, students should never enter or eat in a classroom without a teacher’s permission or without a teacher present.

Students have access to the following indoor areas during recess and lunch on most days:

All students may access their locker areas at any time before and after school, but require a pass during timetabled classes and programs.

Junior School students are not to use their iPads during recess and lunch; devices should be secured in students’ lockers.

The Gym Foyer remains off-limits to students during recess and lunch. Access is permitted only for students involved in sports training in the gym, students going to the theatre for production rehearsals, or similar.

The Central Link Corridor and other corridors (including the tiered seating in the central hub outside library) are only to be used by students during breaks for passive recreation, not for eating, during Terms 1 and 4. However, during Terms 2 and 3, and on days of inclement or severe weather, students may eat inside.

Students are not to sit in or block any high-traffic areas, especially not steps and doorways/entrances, as this presents an Occupational Health and Safety risk.

All areas are to be kept neat and tidy at all times; if indoor spaces are not respected, students will lose the right of access to them. Students who fail to follow staff instructions in the corridors, rooms or other spaces, or who fail to act responsibly or to take appropriate care of indoor areas, will face an appropriate consequence.

Student Clubs may apply to LCC to gain access to classrooms before and after school or during breaks. They will require a staff member or Student Leader to act as supervisor.
