THELLISONS FIVE LEVELS OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY T HE HELLISON he Hellison 5:

Where you at?


Level 1:

Irresponsible

  • Blames others

  • Name calling

  • Disruptive & Negative

  • Talking during instruction

  • Makes excuses/blames others

  • Does not play by the rules

  • Hogging space or equipment or creating an unsafe environment

  • Aggressive behavior & unsafe or uncaring actions with equipment

  • Does not listen or participate (does not remove headphones)

  • Arrives late

Level 2:

Self Control

  • Does not call names

  • Controls temper

  • Does not disrupt class

  • Listens, but does not actively participate or does not follow directions

  • Really does not put forth any effort

  • Cruising in neutral, but not bothering anybody

  • Is on time but does not start activity immediately

  • Does not help with equipment

  • Cell phone is a distraction and unrelated to academia

Level 3:

Involvement

  • Listens and follows direction

  • Follows proper cell phone etiquette

  • Follows basic classroom rules and procedures

  • Shows at least minimal respect

  • Follows rules of the game & basic sportsmanship principles

  • Can do station work independently

  • Can set realistic goals with an understanding of their needs

  • Resists peer pressure

  • Willing to try and are involved in activities

  • Participates with reservation

  • Helps with equipment when teacher directed & treats the equipment with basic care

Level 4:

Self-Responsibility

  • Shows respect & Good Sportsmanship

  • Follows classroom rules and procedures without teacher initiation

  • Makes good choices

  • Honest and fair

  • Admits mistakes and apologizes

  • Works on activities independent of teachers with the intent to improve

  • Works with others to settle argument quickly

  • Ability to balance the task of giving group direction with facilitating their own needs and interests

  • Helps others when it is needed & without being judgmental or arrogant

  • Helps with equipment without teacher direction

Level 5:

Caring

  • Exhibits all of level four

  • Works with everyone in the class willingly

  • Compliments and encourages others

  • Takes care of equipment with the idea of community

  • Asks and provides assistance to teacher and other student

  • Concerned with the progress of others

  • Carries these principles in all aspects of life
