ANEWSLETTER 42017 THURSDAY 23RD FEBRUARY A HUGE THANK YOU NEWSLETTER 42017 THURSDAY 23RD FEBRUARY A HUGE THANK YOU NEWSLETTER 42017 THURSDAY 23RD FEBRUARY A HUGE THANK YOU huge thank you to everyone who came out last Friday night for our Movies in the Park event. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side and the wind meant that the screen could not be operated. It was very disappointing! I was so happy to see everyone there and the event did have a real community feel about it. It was also good to see a number of local community people who joined us. The popcorn was certainly popular and Leanne and Hanna worked very hard all evening to fill up those popcorn bags!

ENEWSLETTER 42017 THURSDAY 23RD FEBRUARY A HUGE THANK YOU ven though there was no movie we got some great photos of everyone looking rugged up at the big event. I will let you all know if they reschedule this event.

NEWSLETTER 42017 THURSDAY 23RD FEBRUARY A HUGE THANK YOU

Harmony Day is celebrated on 21st March every year. For Australia, it is a day to celebrate our culturally diverse society. The day is organised by the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

Although Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have lived in Australia for thousands and thousands of years, most of Australia’s population is made up of people whose families only arrived in the country within the last 200 years.

This means that everyone has different and varied backgrounds: Italian, Greek, English, Lebanese, Irish, Turkish, Canadian etc.

All the different cultures that come together in Australia bring many things with them: different foods, ways of dressing, languages, customs and beliefs.

Harmony Day is about celebrating these differences and learning about new cultures.

At Glenroy Central Primary School, we are going to celebrate this day with a parade of costumes and a special multicultural lunch. The Junior School Council will be promoting this event in the coming month so watch out for coming details!
