In Memoriam: Gordy Linnell, long time Forks Rifle Club director, died on October 2, 2021 in the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Gordy, 74, grew up on the family farm located near Kelly’s Slough west of Grand Forks. A life long shooter and hunter, his interest in firearms started at an early age. Gordy was an electrician by trade, but his love was firearms. In the seventies, he opened G&G Sporting Goods on the family farm site, incorporating shooting ranges along with the store. After it closed, he operated Gordy’s Electric until his retirement when he opened the Northern Rifle Accurizing gunsmithing shop in Grand Forks. Gordy also served as a director for the Grand Forks Gun Club, as a committee member on the Forks Friends of NRA from its inception and supported many other firearms related organizations and activities. He will be missed.
Application Forms: A reminder that all dues are due by the first of the year. An application and return envelope are enclosed for your use. This is the only application form and return envelope that will be mailed to you. An individual and spouse can apply on one form, but separate forms are required for each other individual. Additional application forms can be printed off the club website <forksrifleclub.org>. Current Life Members are also asked return a completed application form so your information on the club records can be kept up to date.
Dues Schedule: All members except life are on a calendar year basis. However, you can pay your dues and league fees as early as November 1st, the start of the club’s fiscal year, and be covered through December 31, 2022. Basic annual membership, which gives you access to the outdoor facilities and the unheated portion of the sighting-in-range, remains at $60.00 and the spouse membership and juniors under 17 years of age are $15.00. The membership for individuals 18 though 22 years of age is $30.00. Spouses and members 22 years of age and younger are not required to maintain a National Rifle Association membership. Life memberships are $1000.00. However, for those 65 and older, we continue to offer Life Memberships at half price, $500.00. Life membership fees can be paid in five equal annual installments.
Newsletters: If you wish to continue to receive copies of the club newsletters via USPS Mail, you need to indicate that on your application form. Newsletters will be posted to the club website in January, April and August. The newsletter containing the annual meeting notice will continued to be mailed out in October by first class mail at least three weeks prior to the date of the annual meeting.

Heated Shooting House: The fee for access to the heated shooting house in the sighting-in-building is $45.00 per calendar year for individual members over 18 years of age. The fee for a spouse is $25.00, and there is no charge for juniors under 18 years of age who must be accompanied by an adult member with access.
Range Use: Remember the range is only for use by members. Do not give the combination to non-members. Junior members under 18 years of age can only use the range when under direct supervision of an adult member. Temporary 15 day memberships are available for $15.00, for friends or family from outside of the area (100 miles), who wish to shoot on the range. Temporary members have to be accompanied by a member whenever they are on the range. Just contact one of the officers or e-mail the club at <[email protected]>.
Range Warning Lights: The purpose of the yellow light on the sighting-in-range building is to alert shooters that there is activity on the high power range. That means shooters on the sighting-in-range cannot shoot beyond the 200 yard backstop, and the trap range is closed. The red lights on the inside the sighting-in-range are to be turned on whenever anyone is down range on the sighting-in-range or silhouette range. No one touches a firearm until everyone is back behind the firing line and the line is ready to resume firing. Then the red lights are turned off.
Indoor Shooting: Practice for the winter leagues will start the week after the annual meeting, with light rifle target/paper silhouette on Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings; 4-position rifle on Wednesday evenings and indoor handgun on Friday afternoons and evenings. The winter leagues will start the first week of January and run through the end of March. Check the calendar on the Forks Rifle Club website <forksrifleclub.org> for exact dates and times. The junior program utilizes the indoor range on Tuesday and Thursday evenings October through March.
Winter Sniper Match: The 2021 outdoor season will finish with an as issued vintage military sniper rifle and as-issued military rifle match on December 4, 2021. For more information contact Tom Reiten at 701-739-1988 or <[email protected]>.
Winter Indoor Matches: The indoor season will officially start with NRA approved 4-Position match on December 11, 2021. Contact Dennis Coulter at 701-213-0238 for match information. Once again, the Forks Rifle Club will be hosting the following matches: an NRA Light Rifle Sectional, and an NRA 3-Position Metric Sectional and State Championship, an NRA 4-Position Sectional and State Championship. The indoor season will finish with an NRA approved handgun match and an approved light rifle match in April. Check the calendar on the club website for dates and times.
Club Website: The club website <forksrifleclub.org> has been upgraded to provide members and the public with more information about the club and club activities.
Combinations: Gate and heated shooting house combos will remain the same until January 1, 2021.

As you can see from the list of match and league winners, it offers the opportunity to participate in leagues and matches. Members can try any of the leagues one time without any fee. Don’t just let those firearms sit at home, get them out and shoot them.
Camp Perry National Matches: Ryan Karrar, Forks Rifle Club member and Air Force Rifle Team member, made the “President’s One Hundred”. This is an auspicious achievement, and the goal of any service rifle competitor at Camp Perry.
Air Guard: SSG Gavin Rook, North Dakota Air National Guard, took top overall shooter at the National Guard Winston T. Wilson competition at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. National Guard teams from all over the United States participate in this annual competition. The ND Air Guard team trains on the Forks Rifle Club range. The ND Air Guard’s relationship with the Forks Rifle Club goes back over forty years.
