B56(06)46 GRID Starter Group (GRID-SG)
After a number of discussions on GRID topics in Board and OCG, a dedicated workshop held during Sept. 2005 and the identification of GRID in the ETSI Strategy 2006 as a strategic topic it is felt that a “Starter Group” should be created to develop a detailed proposal on the future role for technical standardisation and/or interoperability work within ETSI in this area.
ETSI GRID-SG prepared a proposal on how ETSI should engage itself in GRID standardisation matters.
EC funding for ETSI work in the field of GRID standardization was available. The detailed proposal was required before 31 May 2006. See B56(06)34 but note that funding is not to be expected before Q4 2006.
The full text of the proposal is available as B56(06)XXa1.
GRID STF Proposal Steering Group
At the time the GRID STFproposal was written, a GRID starter group lead by Alcatel and BT has been formed. The ETSI Board will decide if GRID standardization will be realized in a new Technical Body or inside an existing Technical Body to be selected. As soon as this decision is taken, a GRID Steering Group will be nominated for this project.
The real kick-off meeting (GRID-WORKSHOP) held on 24 May 2006. Before that, ETSI GRID stakeholders had to be contacted to agree on GRID STF Proposal. An important ETSI+EC meeting was held on 5 April with EC DG INFSO (F2 GRID Unit), DG ENTR, NESSI Partners to agree on GRID Standardization Plans.
GRID Starter group open discussion list [email protected] and docbox area http://docbox.etsi.org/GRID has been created. The 24 May GRID-WORKSHOP meeting url and area created is http://webapp.etsi.org/meetingcalendar/MeetingDetails.asp?mid=25853 and http://portal.etsi.org/docbox/workshop/grid/
The GRID-SG chair appointed during the GRID-SG kick-off meeting is xxxx.
