1) Why are you engaged with ICORN?

Because I work with SafeMUSE - Safe Music Havens Initiative with the main purpose of creating work possibilities for persecuted artists (see enclosure).

2) What kind of activities do you organize for/with ICORN?

The City of Harstad, first declared Safe music Haven, came up as a safe Music haven on the initiative from SafeMUSE and the city is one of SafeMUSE members. We work in cooperation with ICORN to find suitable candidates for placement in Harstad, and we also work together with the hosting city to make the best possible and artistically relevant stay for the artists.

In addition we have been contacted by other ICORN cities wanting a guest musician and have been and still are working to find good and relevant artists for these cities.

3) What represents the importance of ICORN for you?

The organizing of safe placements in the Cities of Refuge for persecuted artists. In addition the annual meetings organized by ICORN are fruitful meeting places for networking and discussions.

4) What do you think about Brazil joining ICORN?

Very good! – as all other newcomers into this work.

About Safe Muse

SafeMUSE - Safe Music Havens Initiative is an independent non-partisan and non-profit membership association with the main purpose of offering persecuted artists and artists at risk a safe place to stay and work with freedom of artistic expression. SafeMUSE - Safe Music Havens Initiative, established in December 2013 by musicians’ and composers in Norway, work in close cooperation with Freemuse - the World Forum on Music and Censorship and musicians’, composers’ and artists’ associations. SafeMUSE is based on and supports the universal principles of human rights as they apply to the rights of artists.

SafeMUSE - Safe Music Havens Initiative is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MFO (Norwegian Musicians’ Union), NOPA (Norwegian Society of Composers and Lyricists) and the Norwegian Society of Composers.
