In this video clip Dr. Meltzoff hosts Alan Alda in Meltzoff’s lab. The clip shows the power of learning by imitation even before children have acquired language. Dr. Meltzoff is a world-expert on imitative learning. Imitation is a chief avenue for learning in the early years. Children watch what we do and copy it: Parents, caretakers, and day-care providers are role models for our children. Children carefully watch what we are doing and want to be like us.

One suggested use of this film clip is that you show it on Education Nation without any voice over, and that Dr. Meltzoff and the NBC hosts can talk about it and what it means for child development, parents, and society.
