AABE Immediate Past President & Chief Operating Officer - Robert Hill

AABE Immediate Past President & Chief Operating Officer - Robert Hill

AABE IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT & CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Bob Hill is an association executive with more than thirty years of experience in both, the public and private sectors. He was elected AABE's Executive Director in 1992 and served in this role for four years. In 1998, he was reappointed to this post after a two-year absence.

Hill came to AABE from the American Gas Association where he served 10 years as vice president of Consumer and Community Affairs. In this position, he served as the natural gas industry's guide and technical assistance officer for programs and matters affecting individual consumer concerns, ongoing community relations and minority business development.

Prior to this position, Hill spent the bulk of his career with the public sector, serving as director of Human Resources and Public Safety for the National League of Cities and one of the founding organizers of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators. In the 70's, he received numerous awards and built a national reputation as director of Veterans Affairs for the National League of Cities and U.S. Conference of Mayors by establishing a prototype network of multi-service centers in 27 cities to assist returning Vietnam-era veterans with problems of readjustment to civilian life. He served these municipal associations for a 12-year period.

In 1960, he was graduated from Southern Connecticut State University and began a career in public education. Shortly after President Lyndon Johnson announced this country's war on poverty in 1965, he joined this effort as a key staff member of Community Progress, Incorporated of New Haven and soon moved onto become Executive Director of the New Haven Opportunities Industrialization Center. In 1969, he was appointed Coordinator for the National Urban Fellows program established by the Ford Foundation to increase the number of minorities in management positions in all levels of government.

Hill has served as a member of the boards of directors and corporate roundtables of several national organizations. He has been an active supporter and working member of prominent civil rights groups such as the NAACP, National Urban League and the American Association for Affirmative Action.
