GM Korea Employees Deliver Lunar New Year Gifts to Neighbors in Need

Seoul – The GM Korea Employee Foundation, a charitable organization established by the employees of GM Korea, today delivered Lunar New Year gift packages to 500 elderly and disadvantaged local residents in advance of the traditional Seol (Lunar New Year) holiday.

About 70 GM Korea employees and other volunteers gathered at the company’s Bupyeong headquarters in Incheon to prepare gift packages. They included GM Korea President and CEO Sergio Rocha; GM Korea Vice President of GPSC Edvaldo L Crepaldi; GM Korea IT Managing Director Anish Hegde; GM Korea Legal Managing Director David Waters; and Incheon City Council on Social Welfare Chairman Changwon Han.

The gift packages included a variety of food staples for the holiday such as rice cakes, cooking oil and canned tuna. The gift packages were provided to those in need through the Incheon City Council on Social welfare.

Rocha said, “It did not take very long to make the gift packages, but they are very meaningful. This is part of GM Korea’s commitment to giving back to the local community and sharing our good fortune with our neighbors.”

Han said that the support of GM Korea’s employees will make the holiday more enjoyable for those less fortunate. He thanked employees for promoting a charitable, volunteer culture in the community.

Seokbun Yun, a local resident who received a gift package, said: “I am so happy to receive such important gifts before the start of the Year of the Sheep. Because of GM Korea’s employees, I will have a happy Seol holiday.”

Since its establishment in 2005, the GM Korea Employee Foundation has been carrying out projects to support those in need, including reimbursing medical expenses, offering scholarships, supporting special classes for talented students and giving musical instruments to a visually impaired orchestra. In addition to donating vehicles, GM Korea employees donate their time and services through activities such as repairing welfare facilities, offering material support and providing emergency assistance.
