HP service technicians grandfathered into the HP Authorization
Program must successfully complete applicable APS certification
exams between now and May 1, 2004.
Technicians
currently grandfathered into the HP Authorization Program to provide
warranty service on post-merger products are now required to
successfully complete the HP Certified Professional Program’s
(HPCP’s) APS certification in order to perform authorized
warranty work within the HP Channel Services Network (CSN) system
and receive warranty labor reimbursement.
Note: pre-merger HP
computing products (ex: Vectra, Brio, Kayak, Omnibook, net server),
and printing and imaging products, currently supported via e Parts
Direct Ordering (ePDO) will continue to use the SPN testing process
on the partnership website in order to perform authorized warranty
work and receive warranty labor reimbursement.
Technicians currently holding APS certifications through the HP Certified Professional program for server, desktop/workstation, and notebook products will be notified once a renewal program for APS certifications is in place. Certifications are extended for all current non-grandfathered technicians until such time. HP will provide details of the renewal process and the deadline for completion at a later date.

T he new APS server exam is now available. Web-based training is posted on the Learning Center at http://vsslfpro.compaq.com/plm. (Course ID CSYY80-EWB, APS Certification – Servicing HP ProLiant Server Products {updated June 2003}).
Instructor-led Training is also available. Contact HP Education at 1-800-hpclass for more information or view details at www.hp.com/partners/us ,training, server, (Course number CS3200).
Desktop/workstation and notebook exams
Desktop/workstation and notebook exams will be available effective Nov. 1, 2003.
Web-based training is posted on the Learning Center at http://vsslfpro.compaq.com/plm. (Course ID 8535, APS Certification – Servicing HP Desktops, Workstations and Thin Client Products. Course ID 10103, APS Certification – Servicing HP Mobile Computing Products).
Instructor-led Training is available for Desktop/Workstation products. Contact HP Education at 1-800-hpclass for more information or view details at www.hp.com/partners/us ,training, desktop (Course Number CS3100).
Note: Student ID numbers will be required to access the above referenced training, as well as for certifications and CSN claim submittals. These ID numbers were assigned when you were grandfathered into the current system. If you cannot locate your student ID# call 1-800-732-5741, option 5 for assistance.
Review the certification process at http://www.hp.com/certification/. Choose your region (Americas) and click on “steps to become certified” in the left navigation bar. Remember that Certification is not complete until all requirements are met and your application has been submitted and approved.
Q: If I have a current SPN qualification and I’m doing warranty work on pre merger HP products (products listed in the Service Qualification Guide on the partnership website) supported via ePDO, do I need to obtain a new APS certification?
A: No, APS certification is not required on warranty work supported via ePDO and your current SPN qualification will support this work.
Q: If I have a current APS certification and I’m doing warranty work on pre or post merger HP or Compaq products supported via CSN, do I need to obtain a new APS certification?
A: No, a new APS certification is not required on warranty work supported via CSN and your current APS will support this work. Note: HP will provide details of the renewal process and the deadline for the current non-Grandfathered APS at a later date.
Q: If I have a grandfathered authorization to perform warranty work and I’m doing warranty work on pre or post merger HP or Compaq products supported via CSN, do I need to obtain a new APS certification?
A: YES, a new APS certification is required for warranty work supported via CSN and your grandfathered APS certification will need to be renewed between now and May 1, 2004.
Q: What if I am not sure if my current credential is a grandfathered authorization or an HPCP ASP certification?
A: Your HPCP certification report is available at www.hp.com/certification/na in “profile” under the section “Certified Professionals Only”. Grandfathered authorizations will be reflected as “HP Services [platform] Qualification”. If you hold an APS certification it will also be listed under your profile.
