Diagram 2
On this diagram, all different types of situations are listing regarding Kaspersky update methods.
Diagram 1: Computers networked (cabled or wireless) with a shared internet connection.
Diagram 2: "Stand-alone" computers with internet connection or not.
Because missions are using laptop, the situation of a computer can changed. In this case you have to inform the user and adapt the settings of Kaspersky.
Updating from zip archives is not supported in Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 MP4!
This can be apply on situation as Diagram 1
To optimize the use of the internet connection, you can use a special feature of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 MP4 which allows copying and saving a database update into any location: a folder on a disk or a network resource. This update will be available for all the computers on the network so it will reduce Internet traffic.
There must be at least one networked PC with access to Internet to be able to copy updates this way. We will call it Master Client.
This computer has to be switch on as long as possible during the day (otherwise it won't be accessible by the other computers).
Regarding the diagram, it concerns the computer marked in red
You have to configure the computer as follow:
Create on "D:" partition the folder "KAV centralized Update"
To avoid a huge download at the first update, you have to copy the 3 folders (located in KAV MP4 Update on Installation CD) into this folder "D:KAV centralized Update"
The volume of those folders is nearly 230Mb.
Open
Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 MP4 on a PC which has
access to Internet. Go to Settings > Update > Configure
> Additional tab. Enable Copy updates to folder
option and specify path to the folder previously created.
On the sheet "Update source", you have to choose "Kaspersky Lab's Update servers" as follow, then click "Ok"
Verify that the update method is set to "Automatically" as follow, and click on "Ok".
Warning: be sure you've copied the 3
folders as mentioned on step 2
Even if the update
should start automatically, you can launch it manually the 1st time,
to do this click on the green arrow "Start update"
as follow:
During the process, the master client will update itself and then put a copy of this update on "D:\KAV Centralized update". So it will be available for this other computers on the network (or for a stand-alone computer). But for this you have to share the folder. Follow the procedure:
You have to go in Windows explorer to share the folder "D:\KAV centralized Update", so all computers on network will be able to update themselves directly from this computer (Master client). Do this as follow:
In Windows explorer, right click on "D:\KAV Centralized update" and click on "Sharing and security…"
If it's the first time you use this feature, you'll have the following dialog box, and you have to click on "If you understand the security…, click here"
Then on next dialog box, choose "Just enable File Sharing" and click "Ok"
On next dialog box, choose "Share this folder on the network", let the name "KAV Centralized update" and all the options as follow. Then click "Ok"
You will be alerted by the system about the length of the share name. Click on "Yes"
The folder is now shared, and the icon of the folder looks like this one:
You just have to note the name of the computer to be able to find it on the network. For this, right click on "My Computer" then "Properties" then "Computer name" tab. In front of "Full computer name" you will find the computer name
You can copy the content (3 folders) of the shared folder onto a removable storage device. Then you will be able to update databases on any PC which has no access to Internet. You will need to configure updating from a local folder on such PCs. (see “1.3. Stand-alone computer (no network, no internet connection)”)
Regarding the diagram, it concerns the computers marked in red
Be sure the computer you are configuring is connected to the network.
Then you have to configure Kaspersky to update itself from the share folder of the Master Client. Follow the procedure:
Open Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 MP4. Go to Settings > Update > Configure > Update source tab. Select the share folder KAV centralized Update located on the Master client (See the paragraph above). Click on "Ok"
Configure to "Automatically" the method of update and click "Ok"
Kaspersky will be continuously update if it is connected to the Master client turned on and updated.
Regarding the diagram, it concerns the computer marked in red
You have to configure the computer as follow:
