In the June quarter 2021, dwelling unit commencements in the ACT declined by 14.5 per cent to 1,542 commencements but remained well above the five-year average of 1,326 commencements. In original terms commencements of new houses grew while other residential dwellings fell. Over the year to the June quarter 2021, total commencements rose by 21.8 per cent, reflecting commencements of both new houses and new other residential dwellings.
Nationally, dwelling unit commencements increased by 23.2 per cent in the June quarter 2021 to 64,596 commencements, which is well above its five-year average of 51,645 commencements. Over the year to the June quarter 2021, total commencements rose by 52.8 per cent due to increases in commencements of both new houses and new other residential dwellings.
