My Favourite Animal: The Crocodile
A crocodile is any species belonging to the family crocodylidae. They are an ancient species, and are believed to have changed little since the times of dinosaurs. Crocodiles survived many great extinction events.
Many species of the family live in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. Crocodiles tend to live in lakes, rivers and wetlands, and sometimes in swampy water. They feed mostly on fish, reptiles and mammals. They are found in tropical and subtropical regions. Crocodiles catch their prey on water. They have flattened bodies and tails, short legs and powerful jaws. The eyes, ears and nostrils are located near the top of the top of the head and are exposed when the crocodile floats on the surface of the water. In most species the adult length is between 6 and 10ft (1.83m) the largest crocodile the saltwater is often 14ft (4.3m) long and may exceed 20ft (6m) in length. The land speed record for a crocodile is 17km/h (11mph) crocodiles can reach speeds of 10 or 11 km/h (around 7mph)!
