To promote the widespread adoption of green infrastructure in and around human settlements in Wales in pursuit of sustainable development.
(NB Green Infrastructure includes any vegetated space including green walls, street trees and green roofs, plus any water courses, water bodies and wetlands (sometimes referred to as “Blue” infrastructure).
To encourage collaboration and cooperation between those engaged in the promotion, installation and management of green infrastructure in Wales;
To encourage and assist decision-makers to incorporate green infrastructure into statutory plans, policies and strategies, and into everyday practice;
To collect and distribute key facts, figures and case studies to those who can best use them for the aims of the Forum;
To encourage the inclusion of green infrastructure in education and continuing professional development programmes; and
To identify and encourage the filling of gaps in knowledge concerning green infrastructure in and around human settlements.
The Forum and its members will:
Use professional networks to distribute facts, figures and case studies to people who can best use them to make an impact;
Seek case studies from Wales and around the world, distributing them to those who can make best use of them;
Run conferences, briefings, meetings and task-and-finish groups to stimulate action on topical issues;
Contribute articles and stories to relevant publications to inform target groups and prompt their action;
Collaborate in the provision of training and education on green infrastructure;
Encourage its members to collaborate to deliver practical examples of green infrastructure to deliver multiple benefits in and around human settlements in Wales.
Membership of the Forum will be open to anyone active in Wales with a professional interest in, or expertise in the promotion, installation or management of green infrastructure in or around human settlements.
The Forum will advise the Urban Ecosystem Group of the Wales Biodiversity Partnership, and thereby report to the Wales Biodiversity Partnership.
