UPDATE ON THE ISCS USER GUIDE

(Presented by the WAFC Washington Provider State)

SUMMARY

This paper provides information on the ISCS User Guide and the ISCS web-site.

  1. INTRODUCTION

    1. The ISCS User Guide and website have been recently updated. The ISCS team has been working to resolve and improve the overall content of the guide since the WAFSOPSG/4 Meeting in Cairo, 26-28 February 2008.

  2. DISCUSSION

    1. The National Weather Service has recently reviewed and updated the ISCS User Guide. The major change in the guide is the addition of Annex 2 and 3. While Annex 2 and 3 are similar to what is contained in the SADIS User Guide, the ISCS Provider State does not monitor OPMET data as is reflected in Annex 2 of the SADIS User Guide. Below is a brief description of each Annex of the ISCS User Guide:

  1. Annex 1 is driven entirely by the FASID Table MET 2A provided by ICAO;

  2. Annex 2 is modeled after the SADIS User Guide but the main difference is no monitoring;

  3. Annex 3 also follows the SADIS User Guide, however no monitoring is indicated; and

  4. Annex 4 is based entirely on the SADIS User Guide, Annex 4.

Users may provide feedback to the ISCS Program Manager (contact details available at URL: http://www.weather.gov/iscs/contact.htm) if any discrepancies were noted in Annexes 2 and 3 to the ISCS User Guide.

    1. The ISCS User Guide can be retrieved by visiting URL: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/iscs. On the left-hand side of the web page there is a listing for documents and under this the User Guide and associated annexes are found. The group may wish to note that the first edition of the ISCS User Guide is available from the WAFSOPSG website. To ensure the currency of this information, the group may wish to agree that the user guide on the WAFSOPSG website should be replaced by a link to the NOAA website and formulate the following conclusion:

      Conclusion 5/ — ISCS User Guide on the WAFSOPSG web-site

      That, in order to ensure the currency of information, the Secretariat replace the ISCS User Guide on the WAFSOPSG website by the following link to the NOAA website:

      www.nws.noaa.gov/iscs

    2. Ongoing and future plans for the ISCS User Guide include continued interchanges with the SADIS Provider State to continue harmonization between the two providers. Significant improvements have been made, for example, by using the original country CCCC in many bulletins rather than KWBC. The ISCS team is working on other items such as the US collectives to ensure there is complete harmonization.

  1. ACTION BY THE wafSOPSG

    1. The WAFSOPSG is invited to:

  1. note the information in this paper;

  2. decide on the draft decision proposed for the group’s consideration.
