EXAMINATION INVIGILATOR
Causal, part-time, during exam periods
SALARY: Scale Point 14 (£8.72 per hour)
LOCATION: City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College
REPORTS TO: Business Support Manager
This job description is not a comprehensive definition of the post. Discussions will take place on a regular basis to clarify individual responsibilities within the general framework and character of the post as defined below.
To provide an efficient invigilation service in order to provide the best conditions possible for candidates and to prevent any breach of the regulations under which examinations are conducted.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To participate in College processes as required.
To comply with the Colleges policies and codes of practice in relation to Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Quality Assurance.
To work in the interests of the College as required.
To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults you are responsible for, or come into contact with, and outside of this, to exercise vigilance at all times.
POST SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To respond promptly to all requests to invigilate and to give the maximum possible notice of inability to attend any session for which you have been booked.
To familiarise yourself with the current edition of the Joint Council of Qualification’s (JCQ) Instructions for the Conduct of Examinations, regulation notices and any other written procedures and processes distributed by the College.
To work under the direction of a lead invigilator and, in conjunction with other invigilators, ensure the alert and comprehensive supervision of candidates.
To assist with setting up examination venues by giving out examination papers, materials, stationery and relevant equipment in accordance with JCQ requirements and College procedures.
To assist candidates prior to the start of examinations by directing them to their seats, advising them about items and materials that are not permitted in examination venues and ensuring the correct identification of all candidates.
To invigilate during examinations by unobtrusive observation of the examination room, dealing with queries raised by candidates and dealing with examination irregularities in strict accordance with JCQ regulations and College procedures.
To complete attendance registers and seating plans accurately during examinations.
To report immediately to the Examinations Office or a Senior Manager any instances of suspected malpractice or any other improper behaviour.
To escort candidates from venues during the examinations if required, supervising candidates whilst outside examination venues and during clash segregation in accordance with JCQ regulations.
To collect scripts at the end of the examination in accordance with agreed procedures, ensuring that they are never left unattended and are safely delivered to the Examinations Office.
To supervise candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not remove material, equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensuring that candidates leave venues in an orderly and quiet manner.
To act, as a required, as a trained reader and/or scribe for candidates with approved access arrangements.
To undertake all necessary regular training and professional development as required.
